Representing the Lord (Matthew 3) John the Baptist brings a message in Matthew 3 that proclaims that the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand. His physical appearance might seem unexpected of someone proclaiming a message of God, as prophets were expected to represent the divine power they served. Yet, we can look throughout time and see prophets wearing simple clothing that is almost primal, so this look is not without precedent. John is a creature of God, yet called by God to baptize and serve the Son of God.
