Reps From The Philadelphia Black Dance Mural | The Midday Break Room w/ Roxi Fab - 7.30.26

On Tuesday, Aug. 4th, Philadelphia will be dedicating a new mural that pays tribute to Philadelphia Legends of Black Dance, The Philadelphia Black Dance Mural. This mural, created by visual and spoken word artist Bernard Collins, honors generations of trailblazing dancers and educators, from Essie Marie Dorsey to Joan Myers Brown, who overcame centuries of racial gatekeeping to teach European techniques to Black students, at a time when Black dancers were excluded from white ballet institutions. This event will take place from 6-8pm at 2300 Pemberton St. Karen Warrington is a dance historian and former ballerina. Bernard Collins Jr. is a visual and spoken-word artist. Donnell Powell is the Mural project manager. They all joined the show to further discuss the overal significance of this mural.
