Repurposing Shame and Using Our White Privilege to Dismantle Racism

from embrace the madness

Acknowledging our societal privilege is one of the first steps we can take in the movement toward ending systemic racism. There are a lot of complex emotions like shame and frustration that arise when we begin to think about racism, white privilege, and that's okay. Racism seems like a yucky relic from the past, but the more you learn, the more you realize how the very reality we live in has been based on systems and history books that have been whitewashed to tone down the issue. These discriminatory practices are still in place to this day. When we become aware of this, we can begin to do the inner-work to find out how to identify our privilege and use it to help dismantle the white supremacy that lingers today.
