Kimberly Martinez Phillips is a Doctoral Candidate at Memorial University in Newfoundland and Labrador. Her dissertation studies single, never-married, childfree women of color. She has a bachelor’s degree in both Cultural Anthropology and Criminology, a master’s in Sociology, and has been teaching sociology courses in colleges and universities for over 24 years. Previous to her work in academia she was a Program Director, Jury Consultant, Local Evaluator, Safety Educator, and Health Educator working in extremely diverse communities. In this episode, Kimberly shares what is coming to light from her research interviewing single, never-married, childfree women of color. We also talk about her past study on the portrayal of the single woman in films and how what she's learning from her research participants is that they are gloriously happy and fulfilled counter to the crazy cat lady narrative.
