Respect
from Black Girl Rants Hosted by Rejjia Camphor
It's been a whole year since dropping an episode and I'm back give ya what you want and what you need. That's right, I'm talking about RESPECT! In this episode, I answer seven key questions from Courtney Macavinta and Andrea Vander Pluyum's book: Respect, A Girl's Guide to Getting Respect and Dealing When Your Line is Crossed. Those questions are: 1. What does respect mean to you? What do you think it means to your family and friends? 2. In your life right now, what are some ways you're getting and giving respect? *think about the 7 basic respects 3. Name people in your life you respect most? Why do you admire them or feel they deserve your respect? (they can be people you know or read about) 4. Are all of your rights being honored by you and those around you? If so, how? If not, why? 5. Think about some disrespectful situations you've dealt with recently. How did you handle things? What could you have done differently? What might happen next time? *The seven basic respects are: having self respect, listening to your gut, setting boundaries, speaking up for yourself, building strong relationships, fighting for equality and getting help when you need it. And for question #4 in regards to rights, some basic ones are: to feel like you belong and are an equal, to figure out what you need and take care of yourself, to listen to your true feelings, to speak your mind, change your mind and question the world around you, to be different from your family, your friends and media ideals and images, to feel safe, to become independent, to follow your passion and be the real you!
