Um, we're doing what Thanksgiving break People for the beach on the turkeys eating that stuff in green bean casserole bro. You've been eating cranberry sauce I haven't had this debate like you touch the cranberry sauce bro.
That's me I don't eat cranberries That's gross keep that in a can right? Bro, like my parents would always back in Texas They order a package from Kroger and like they have all the contents in there and when that cranberry sauce came We just you know say push that thing to the side that there was like a like a like a lot sheep except out that she went We ain't gonna save them. I don't know about that one brown that cranberry sauce was if you eat cranberry sauce bro You're a menace. Oh man, but as we um as we enter this week of thanks this season of thanks this life of thanks We should always be living from a heart of gratitude I feel like one of the biggest things that we can be thankful for is the fact that we get to rest res Oh man catching these day and night and spirit and in the fight a I told you a jesus is like a he's a light he's a light his love It's a fight aye, but okay, okay.

What's gonna work is the rest. I'm the best I can be my best He's right. Hey, he's right. I think that's how we're gonna start this off You can't be at your best if you don't have what mr.
Holmes Rest my rest if you don't have rest Why is rest important? Well rest is one of the gifts that gaga was at the beginning of creation He designed our bodies to need rest and rest is when we recuperate rejuvenate and we center so we can be we can better serve him You know, we can't serve him to our fullest if we're tired if we're stressed That's why our body's designed to need or need rest. You know what I'm saying? Right, right and and you know, the crazy thing is that When we see sabbath in the Old Testament sabbath is defined as the Lord's rest day, right?
So the Lord rested on the sabbath on the last day of the week. Um, he created creation in six days and The Lord saw all creation and he said in genesis it is good, but we see that when he rested. He said he said rest is holy Right in genesis two it says that That the rest day Then god, this is genesis two verse three then god blessed the seventh day and sanctified it because in it He rested from all the work all his work which god has created and made That's so true like god found satisfaction and all he created and not only rested on a seventh day But blessed that day like he said like if god rested, I think you should rest too my boy Go to sleep. Oh man.
Take a break. Right. Right because like that's a crazy contrast I do think like the skies is beautiful. It is good the animals were beautiful It is good man wasn't god's image and likeness it is good But we see this distinction where the Lord says rest is holy So work is good, but in god's eyes rest is holy But how many times do we bestow?
We're still working for god as something that is so good It's faith that I works this dead so it's in it's a great path for it to be like we got work you got to work You got to work because that's evidence of faith where it's like the Lord sanctifies rest He sanctifies sabbath it is a commandment from god He tells us to do this in excess when he gives Moses the 10 commandments Like even in mark chapter 6 verse 30 35 read out to you the apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught Then because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat He said to them come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place So we all know or most of us know his miracle where Jesus feeds the 5000 right? Obviously the apostles didn't get rest or Jesus when they came off their tour Um, but whenever Jesus was in Capernaum people would not leave him alone But as you can see the apostles needed rest from the mission they came from and even Jesus rested That's why it's so important that we set aside periods of rest and meditation for the Lord So I just wanted to add that in there because I think that's very important like Uh, even in a new testament the gospels Jesus rested and he emphasized that for us to do in our daily lives as well Yeah, that is so good like The image of the invisible god like the law is not forsaken when it comes to Jesus even he rested He did the will of his father and Like even the emphasize on tisest point like the apostles just did their first Like round of ministry like it says early in the chapter like He he called the 12 to him to begin to send them out two by two and gave them power over unclean spirits So this is their first time going out and doing ministry and afterwards when they're done doing ministry They experienced john the baptist getting his head cut off Their experience death right after doing all this ministry from the lord So they're not only physically tired from going around and ministering to people spiritually tired Because the lord gave them power of unclean spirits and this their first go around actually like doing this work for the lord But they experienced death with six al heavy toll on us as humans emotionally emotionally mentally So they're just distressing all kinds of ways and like tai said After they after the disciples went and they laid the tomb of john the baptist The latest courts in the tomb The first thing jesus told them is come aside to a deserted place and rest a while For many people were coming and going and they didn't have time to eat Jesus told them to rest after all of this ministry others all this working that they were doing from jesus because jesus sent them also for jesus And if that's the first thing jesus telling you after you're done doing things from do it Jesus tells us to do this right because it even says They didn't even have time to eat How many times do we not rest we don't have time to eat we don't want to sleep We don't even want to do the daily things that we're that we're used to doing because we didn't get enough sleep Or we feel distressed or we feel anxious, you know, we we feel worked up and jesus saying Rest he sees us. He knows what we're doing from his spirit Like even on a personal level like I remember once I had it recently I knew this semester like I was I was facing procrastination, you know And I waited till the last minute to do something so boom. I this will have it I ended up staying up all day working on this project And it turned out to not go on my favorite It's not like I failed it completely But I put in all this work at the last minute and like did not give my body enough time the rest didn't prioritize like everything for It to be successful and as it turns out I wasn't at my best because I didn't Give enough time for me to get rest I didn't you know like set up set aside a period of rest in meditation for the Lord So I ended up being in a space where I had to crunch and do all this work in a little amount of time Resulting in me suffering from lack of rest, which led to stress And which led to me not being my best at times like I came in the lounge.
Everybody's like what's going on? Ties you don't seem right. What's going on? Like I didn't have rest, bro So it just came off like I was like not into it But it's just like I was so tired like I couldn't be my best because I didn't get myself enough time to be my best Does that make sense?
Right Now that is good because When we don't rest Now we does God see that other people are able to see that and We're usually not ourselves when we don't rest right we want to be silent We want to be by ourselves when I say I'm cooperating when I say I need time for myself and all these things which is good But at the same time we see that not resting steals From a little bit of our identity. We begin to act different. We begin to behave different because we're not resting both physically and spiritually right? um one of the passages when um The Lord is telling Moses.
He's like he's up on the mountain and he just received the 10 commandments and afterwards um You know these were like when they built the golden calf, you know, I'm saying because Moses was up on the mountain too long They didn't understand that he was having a conversation with the Lord. He was receiving insight from the Lord They thought he was abandoning them right that thought there is no more God so they went into the golden calf But afterwards Moses is like How am I gonna let these people know that following you is worth it? Like how are we gonna find grace in your sight after we repeatedly let you down? Right and this is what the Lord says to Moses right?
Moses says this now Therefore I pray if I found grace in your sight show me now your way Moses is saying show me your way That I may know you he wants to know God and I may find grace in your sight and consider that this nation is your people Right, please tell me God. Please consider this nation your people we continue this obey you continually run away from your commands Consider this nation your people do not abandon us enough for sake us Lord Though we continually fall short and sin and this is what the Lord says he says my presence will go with you and I will give you rest So the second big thing you see my rest not only does God command it right? No, there's Jesus tells apostles the rest but rest doesn't come from us rest comes from God Rest comes from God. Amen.
That is so true. That is very true Let's look in a clisiesties chapter 6 verse 3 oh 2 6 Actually not the first three to six. I think it's verse one to six I have seen another evil under the sun in a ways heavy on men. God gives a man wealth possessions and honor so that he lacks nothing His heart desire, but God does not enable him to enjoy them and a stranger enjoys them instead This is meaningless a grievous evil a man may have a hundred children and live many years Yet no matter how long he lives if he cannot enjoy his prosperity It does not receive proper burial.
I say that a stillborn child is better often he it comes without meaning it departs in darkness and in darkness His name is shrouded Though he never saw the sun or knew anything it has more rest than does that man Even if he lives a thousand years twice over but fails to enjoy his prosperity do not all go to the same place So I could just make it more clear Solomon was in his bag with his scripture like for real I mean he was he was good in fact like Stillborn I said stillborn well, we know a stillborn child is a miscarriage like you know Maybe that's that's died before it's first um but As far as like the wealthy man Not only must God give us what we have but he owned but only he can enable us to enjoy it By anything you're you're given only God can enable you to enjoy that gift You know so in the reading say that for them again So I think I went over this time say that for them again Only God can enable us to enjoy the gift that he has given us So in the reading we know that possessing these possessing things does not necessarily mean you're enjoying them So the man was not content with what he had When people have possessions without enjoyment and amount it amounts to what we know as another evil under the sun And Solomon is saying this Countless of times or most of the times over and over in Ecclesiastes like another evil under the sun and meaningless Um, but you might ask like how does this relate to rest? Well when we when we go back to the scripture where it talks about um A stillborn child is better often he um We uh the stillborn child never enjoys the light of day But passes from the darkness of his mother's womb to darkness of the grave Which is basically it never is born it dies in a miscarriage So the still is saying the stillborn child enjoys something the miso adult doesn't have which is rest He is at rest from the stillborn child is at rest from annoyance toil frustration loneliness and lack of love That's why so important to enjoy things and be content and also rest because you can be caught up in like life and wanting to get all these things Wanted to be successful, but if you don't rest your body, you're not going to be able to uh Enjoy the the the good things in life like your relationship with God Being able to bring other people's people closer to the word of God, you know So you have to really prioritize rest and set it aside in your life Mm-hmm. I like that set aside for your life That's literally the definition of holy definition of holy is worthy of complete devotion set apart We're setting this apart for God not only because he commanded it not only because he said it's holy Because we see that there's direct goodness direct fruit that comes from resting And that's something that we choose we choose to allow God to give us rest This is out of our free will we tell ourselves hey I need to stop working and seek the wisdom of God To make sure that i'm doing these things that i'm doing from the Lord and not for the Lord And that's a huge perspective switch, right because we can work all of our lives for God But God wants to be with us and these works are not good unless they're from him Unless we continually work from our own goodness our own righteousness and which we don't have that And the beautiful thing and information We send ecclesiastes and just connecting that excellence to it's like there is a rest that comes with God's presence Right. Everybody knows that scripture says be still and know that i'm God That's God's presence with you.
I said that again for the people scripture tells us And Psalms be still and know that i am God God is telling us this Be still Do nothing Don't think about the future Don't think about the past Remain present be still and know that he is God you got to know it not just believe it Not just think about it You got to receive the Lord know these things Consume the Lord in prayer and worship and truth And truly allow his presence to rest in you Because how can God be with you take time to be with you when you're always working with your hands always running around And help everybody else just like Martha did in the gospels She was out here cleaning and doing all these things when the Lord that this the Messiah of the world is sitting in your house And surely said let me go do the dishes It's like no She's gonna see the rest with him When your presence when his presence is with you you can rest and he's given us access to his presence Through the Holy Spirit when you believe in receive Jesus that is a privilege people in the Old Testament It was only certain people like out there Moses Our presence will be with you You see Daniel You know his presence was always with Daniel and the lines then and the fire and he was able to have rest in peace And it's like we see constantly These times of people literally rest with Jesus They rest in the Holy Spirit rest in the fact that God has brought us out of so much mess Can you believe that? How much has God with us out of situations Where it's because we were doing too much Calent sometimes We were doing too much Our eyes can never have enough We want this we want that and then it leads us to sin It leads us to compromise because we constantly want want want We're like you said, Ties The world wants us to be content and rest in his purpose and his will for our lives Message Sheesh But yeah, man Rest like I'm meeting a couple of people no one say names But I came here no face no gaze I remember meeting on me. I was like, okay, what do you like to do for fun? That person said I like to sleep.
I was like it was weird to think about it from like sleep like what are you doing? You know like that feeling you like that Well, I was I really thought about like man That's actually good though Like not to the point where you value sleep over your own responsibilities But like being able to just enjoy rest and fully like you know embrace that I thought that was really cool And that was the first time I actually heard that coming into college so I just It kind of baffled me that first thing Relaxed Calamogastity For postures Confuzzled Unamused Yeah, and just speaking back in office like This is what Jesus says and a lot of people know this scripture and it's so beautiful It's in Matthew 1128. It says come to me All you who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest Take my yoke upon you and learn from me Prime gentle and lowly in heart and I will and you will find rested for your souls for my yoke is easy and my burden is light This is Jesus's thing this So we know that there's steps to this right? We don't just it's not when we're doing nothing that means that that's resting No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no Refraining from work is not resting.
It's when you come to Jesus While you're not doing anything Or even while you're doing something you come to Jesus Rest is not found when we just give ourselves to him. Oh Jesus. Take this no no It's it's not when he takes something from it. It's when we come to him It says in verse 20 it come to me and I'll give you rest.
He's not gonna be a rest from those things He's gonna give you rest your soul needs rest your soul is designed to rest because that is what God has commanded How many have you ever gotten a conviction for not wrestling? I don't even think that's even talked about because you're conviction for others since like if I still Am I gonna feel convicted? You know what? This is a good that you actually own the something but you own the something I'm on some for real.
What am I? What's this? Holy God No, I'm just like No, I'm a little like like think about it Black Friday. What do we do on Black Friday?
I'm gonna stay all up. I'm gonna stay up all night I'm gonna catch that sale I'm gonna get my Black Friday sales. Well, everybody in their mama finna be a target Like for real Don't rest and guess what when I date when the day start happening you start feeling fatigued like What is going on something missing? I feel I feel like I don't feel like my best I stayed up all night I'm full of that Thanksgiving meal, you know The cranberry sauce is in my system But like if you think about it, bro Like every year every time I didn't go to sleep and I stayed up for Black Friday like and didn't get rest I always felt at my worst like always this was in a bad mood always gonna go trying to move on like get these sales Like that's the conviction right there Right For real and that's crazy like Man, bro Because I honestly that's still something I'm learning feeling convicted not to rest You feel convicted when you lie you feel convicted when you steal when you blast me against God You feel convicted when you lust but do you feel convicted when you don't rest?
Because that tells you a lot about your lifestyle if you're not feeling convicted when you rest you got to address From what posture are you working from from what posture are you living from right because rest is evidence that we can't do it alone I'm gonna say that one more time Rest is evidence that we can't do it alone Like for real like it's kind of funny But I used to grow up like you know I used to be a hungry kid growing up always eating stuff up to the pantry and stuff Right and I was like my mom used I'd be like mom hungry. She like go to sleep boy You go to sleep you'll be hungry. But like that's for real if you go to sleep and rest your body's able to like Is the word rejuvenate? Yeah rejuvenate is so great rejuvenate all that stuff you send beginning Yeah, it's able to like Reset you know I'm saying because we're always just like trying to do stuff like and move on our own wheel when it's not Our wheel but his will be done, you know, so take that rest and Set aside time for him.
Right. Right. Right and the ultimate Image of the reason why we need to rest is Jesus, right? Jesus is the representation that we can't always work our way out of situations God doesn't delight in all the sacrifices He wants hearts He wants relationship He wants to be with us and he can't be with us if we're always saying I gotta go do this I gotta go do that But he shows that the ultimate time where we can't work our way out.
He thinks is with the wages of sin that is death We can humanity can't work our way out of that one We're born sinful We sin that is our nature And through Jesus We learn that we need to rest because he's the one who's done the work for us We're designed to rest in him because he's the only one who can pay that fine It was only through his finish to work with him on the cross in john 19. I believe 30 says it is finished It is finished He's done the work. That's why we need to rest Our relationship with God comes nothing from what we do but what Christ has already done and we work from that standpoint our heart poshers from that standpoint That I was so grace. That's why I do these things for the Lord Not such as please and look the best for him Our best like we said in the beginning is when you rest that's anyone's best when they're at rest Only physically the spirits that can see that rest is for our souls and it's beautiful rest is good Rest is good And one final just representation of this thing Um gonna jump from songs when he's 127 to Hebrews or slowly shortly close out.
This was says in songs 127 It's a short one right but it says Unless the Lord builds the house so unless the Lord builds the house They labor in vain who build it unless the Lord guards the city the watchmen stay awake in vain It is in vain that you rise up early to stay up to sit up late to eat the bread of sorrows for he gives for so he gives his beloved She And it's like if our work is not grounded in God or in godly wisdom It says we're eating the bread of sorrows We don't even enjoy the work That we even do because I even we're not even arrested in it. I'm not doing it from the Lord's way I don't people like rest. I mean working this good working is the way I roll. I guess Like when the Lord built the work for Adam.
He said work it till the ground keep it But on that seven day you got to rest There's times in life we need to write many times We need to always be at a standpoint of rest in the Lord because that is when we have peace And I know for a fact like the world will always be for most times it's contrary to the word of god Like I'm most famous quote I've heard before is I'm not going to go to sleep. I'll sleep when I die Yeah, man. I'm just here to tell you don't live by that because Go to sleep my boy. You'll be you'll be at your best if you're able to give yourself some time to Re-cooperate and rest.
You know I'm saying like sleep till I die man. What does that mean, bro? If you say you're gonna sleep to your diet, it's gonna be soon my boy You're not gonna you're not gonna be able to build Whatever you're trying to build without Giving yourself time to recover from the work you've or the stress you put on your body So I just want to add that in there because I feel like that's very important for us to know even older adults like It's very important to just like not always go by the things that you hear day to day But follow the word that you're listening to and follow and import follow in imitation of Christ, you know I'm saying He's even Paul and like and Corinthians said imitate me as I'm gonna take Christ It's supposed to be imitating Christ and if Christ was perfect never sinned One of the reasons why he did it said it because he rested that's when the reason why he was sunless He rested and only he not stealing not cheating not lying although he rested too. He didn't send in that aspect Right, he was resting when the storms of the storms of the boat were crashing and all the apostles are like Jesus wake up and there's a storm outside.
What was Jesus doing? He was resting So the storms of life are coming Jesus told us that we should be resting because God is in control God has us in his hands When you come to Jesus when he says and Matthew 11 28 comes to me and I'll give you rest once he's giving you rest You know God is in control when the storms of life when when college gets crazy when you're working that job This seems like it's 24 seven night shit after night shift and and maybe you have children and you're struggling in that aspect You just feel like you're always spending your attention there or just whatever you may be doing remember God is in control and Jesus offers us rest And this is the final aspect I'll put on the rest. This is in Hebrews, right? This is what verse um This is suffer verse nine.
This is chapter four verse nine. This is the last this the last thing I'm gonna offer with it says There remains therefore a day of rest for people of God that remains a day. It has not gone away The Sabbath still holy still keep it the rest then for he who has entered his rest in who has entered God's rest Has himself ceased from his own works as God did from his Let us therefore be diligent to insert that rest insert God's rest Let's anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience So not resting is disobedience of God Or we're not resting that is not his will not both physically but spiritually Getting acumulated with his voice Getting attuned to his voice It's very hard to understand someone's voice when you're always on the move You can't sit down and listen and truly take in what they're saying So we encourage you this thing to be a great truly rest. So just for the rest of this year This has you continue your walk in Christ rest Find time to talk with God by time the rest and it's finished work Sometimes we work as if God has already paid our debt through Christ Jesus We act like we're still working our way to heaven when it's like no it's been done Take that in rest in that peace When you're with God who can be against you this guy is with us No weapon that is formed shop prosper the weapon will be formed It might be bullets in that gun but it will not prosper when you're with the Lord when you rest with him So stop trying to fight From your standpoint from your flesh from your will and start letting Jesus defend you We got armor God We got the promises of life on us.
We got the Holy Spirit so let Jesus defend you Rest in him. Our God is strong. He's mighty. That's the line that you're talking about The king of kings of Lord of gods rest in this presence I was gonna soften prayer real quick.

So we pray for your spirit to meet us and sustain us Lord we know that sometimes rest can be hard to find as we face our daily routine So we ask that you will multiply every minute of rest that we have on this earth Help us to rely on you and not ourselves. Lord we ask you to teach our minds to rest in your truth Teach our hearts to rest in your love teach our bodies to rest in your peace And as we rest in you we ask that you will fill us with your joy and peace We ask that your perfect wisdom will guide us to the right decisions today We ask that you will be able to help us to show others how to meet the way into your presence Lord we thank you for your promises and your strong hand that leads and guides us Please teach us your ways and lead us into your rest We love you and the way you care for us in your holy name.
