Rest is Not Laziness — It's Obedience

from Quiet In The Night · host Bill Scott

Rest is Not Laziness — It's Obedience In a world that glorifies hustle and constant motion, rest can feel like weakness. But in God's Kingdom, rest is a holy rhythm — a gift and a command. From the very beginning, God modeled rest. After six days of creation, He paused and called it good (Genesis 2:2-3). Not because He was tired, but to set a pattern for us. Jesus often withdrew to quiet places to pray and renew His strength (Luke 5:16). He invites us to do the same: "Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). Rest isn't about laziness — it's about trusting that God is in control, even when we're not producing or performing. When we rest, we declare with our lives: "God, I trust You more than I trust my own effort." It's an act of worship. It's obedience. So breathe. Slow down. Step into the stillness and know that He is God (Psalm 46:10). Rest is not giving up — it's giving in to grace. You don't have to earn rest. You're invited into it. And friend, you are allowed to rest — because your Father says so.
