Resurrection Power: When Paul Got Back Up - Audio
from Hicksville Mennonite Hosted by Mark Driskill
Building on a week-long series about defining moments, this evening message looks at Acts 14:19-23, where Paul is stoned, dragged out of Lystra and left for dead, yet rises while the disciples gather around him, walks back into the city and keeps preaching. The speaker argues this is more than grit; it is resurrection life at work. He opens with the story of Harold, a dying unbeliever in an ICU who was prayed with, came back unexplained to the doctors, and lived several more years as a believer. He also says every religion has a text, a temple and a tradition, but Christianity alone offers the living presence and power of Christ within, with Paul and Harold as living testimonies. The second half asks how the Holy Spirit works in a believer’s life. The speaker walks through conviction of sin, new birth, sealing as a child of God, a renewed mind, learning to walk in step with the Spirit, the fruit of the Spirit, hunger for God’s Word, guidance, boldness in witness, and spiritual gifts. He urges listeners to stop trying in their own strength and start trusting Christ, to find and use their gifts, to gather around the suffering as the disciples did for Paul, and to live fearlessly because the church is unstoppable. The sermon ends with a prayer of invitation for those who don’t yet know Christ.
