Rethinking ''Mental Health'' - What Does It Mean to You?

from Okay, Now What? - With Kate Gladdin · host Kate Fitzsimons

This episode is all about exploring - what does mental health mean to you? Because we see so many #MENTALHEALTH and people raising awarness of it - but what does it actually mean?! I think it's important to get clear about because many of us define it in a way that actually takes away our mental health and ability to be resilient - which is of course the exact opposite of what we're aiming for. So this episode I do an open exploration of what I think is a helpful way (and a not such helpful way) to think about what it means to be ''mentally healthy'' and why an ''all or nothing'' mentality is often robbing us from being resilient. I speak about why embracing the 50/50 contrast of the human experience and including negative thoughts as a natural part of mental health will actually boost our wellbeing and ability to work through our emotions.  Finally I also discuss why it's helpful to drop this idea that life could have or should have ever been any different than what it is - maybe in the details - but the reality of the struggle and challenges will always be in your life no matter what path or choices you make. Because life is the 50/50 - 50% painful and challenging, 50% amazing and enjoyable. Embracing all of it is the first step to true mental health in my eyes. Tune in now to join in this thought provoking episode, and really decide for yourself how you want to complete the sentence ''The way I choose to define mental health so that brings me peace is..''
