"Rethinking Retirement: What the Bible and Church History Teach Us About Work"

Have you ever stopped to ask: Should Christians really retire? In modern America, retirement often means stepping away from meaningful work to pursue leisure and comfort. But when we look at the Bible and church history, we see a very different picture. The Apostle Paul worked and preached until the day he was martyred. Peter left his fishing business to become a fisher of men. Reformers like Martin Luther, John Calvin, and John Knox ministered faithfully until their final breath. Even great preachers like Charles Spurgeon poured themselves out in service until their health gave way. God’s Word consistently points us toward diligence, service, and living out our calling for as long as He gives us breath. Retirement, as our culture defines it, is not found in Scripture. Instead, we are called to a life of purpose, faithfulness, and laboring for the Kingdom—whether through ministry, discipleship, or acts of service.
