In this episode, We Investigate Crime in a California Prison. Ret. CDCR ISU Sergeant Mike Alvarez explains it all. Retired CDCR ISU Sergeant Mike Alvarez. Sergeant Alvarez began a career in May 1986, when the institution was a Level I-3 facility. CMC housed low-level offenders and inmates who were unable to participate in the regular general population mainline. The audience will hear from Mike about what it takes to be a solid correctional officer and leader. The audience has heard about their experiences from other CDC officers, such as Hector Bravo and Johnny Rey. Now, a different perspective will be shared. Some of ISU's responsibilities, as both a Correctional Investigator and a supervisor, will be discussed. The requirements for joining ISU and the duties involved will also be addressed.
