Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Richard Worries, up to 538. Woo! As we host Justin Baker, and as always, I'm joined by Bible Human Chris Saturn. Hi, Justin.

Hi, Saturn. We made it. We got out of the evening. Weird gear shifting.

We had 20 solid minutes of outer limits discussion, and now we have to go straight into video games. Or we just keep talking outer limits. For the whole show, here it is. The old sci-fi shows.

It feels weird to call 90s outer limits old. Right. It's 30 years old. It is.

Good. Yeah. I don't like that. I started in 92, so it's 33 years old.

I was four years old. You were a kid. Four years old. I was a kid too.

I was a teenager. Right. You were an older kid. You were one of them old kids.

I guess I wasn't a teenager yet when it started. But by the time they most were there. Anyway, yes, sir. Playing video games kind of bounced around through a lot of shit.

Trying to catch up on a lot of shit. Trying to play, you know, I'm post-cold steel. And I've started cold-steel too, but I'm not ready to like mainline it yet. I'm just kind of picking up sections of it.

I'm barely into chapter one. I'm like, a few hours in. I really have not done anything. Out of the prologue area.

Into the proper area. I'm out of the prologue in just barely starting chapter one. So trying to slow roll it and take my time before I really buckle down. But because of that, I'm not settling on anything else because I don't want to be away too long.

So I went back and played a chunk of Monster Hunter and still enjoyable and fun. I was trying to get to the Final Fantasy crossover stuff, but I wasn't hiring up Hunter rank. So I kept having to rank up and do grind. And then I kind of fell off that.

Someone purchased the RoboCop Rogue City video game for me for my birthday on Steam. Yeah. And I booted that up and played a little bit of that. And it's just like the demo.

It's like, it's weird. Because it's about as faithful a RoboCop game as you could possibly get. But also as a first person shooter, it's weirdly slow and clunky because RoboCop is slow and clunky. Yeah, he is a slow creature.

And you are inhabiting RoboCop. And it would be weird if RoboCop was like sprinting and dodge rolling around on arena. That would be strange. Yeah.

And so I weirdly enjoy it a lot because of that. But I could see someone that like doesn't know RoboCop being like, this is the slowest clunky shit I've ever played. You're like, no, no, no, it's supposed to be because that's RoboCop because it's Peter Weller in 400 fucking pounds of styrofoam. So he moved like a goofball.

Yeah. I also got the new painkiller game put up by 3D Realms and someone else. And I don't remember because I picked up a painkiller black edition back when it had first come out on PC for $1.99 at a game stop. Yeah.

And I remember I didn't even know what it was. I was just like, this looks like a shooter. I like shooters and it's literally $2. Yeah.

What do I got to lose? And I played it and it was a really good fun horror first person shooter game. Yeah. And painkiller went on to, you know, it's a cult classic.

It's kind of one of those like, you know, B-T or Well-Remember, like this was a fantastic game that never really got, it's time of day. Yeah. And I didn't even look anything up about the sequel at all. I didn't know.

I just saw painkiller and I was like, yes, I'm down for a new painkiller. It's budget priced at $40 bucks. And it's got a physical release. Fuck yeah.

I'm in. Let's do it. Yeah. And it's bad.

First of all, it's bad. It's the kind of bad where I regret that I opened it before looking up reviews. Oh no. Because I pre-ordered it.

Came in. I took it immediately. I have a shrink put it in. I was like, this is weird.

It's a co-op shooter. It is a three person co-op shooter. Okay. And it is a co-op.

So there are nine in air quotes levels, but they're not really levels. There is no story at all. The game's just like, welcome to hell kill demons. And I'm like, I'm not upset about that.

That's fine. It was cool. I like killing demons. And it puts him in the game with two bot companions who are stupid as hell and suck.

And you have to solve puzzles with them. Oh no. Three person puzzles or go play co-op online. This game that nobody else is going to have and there will be no one online in a week.

And I'm not going to convince anyone else to play it because it sucks. But all of the levels are literally this. It is, you remember Doom 2016? And they kind of put, they did these monster arena zones where on the map, you'd be like, here's a big area and they'd mark it in red where it's like, once you go here, you're locked into this area and you just kill some waves of demons to then progress through the rest of the exploration.

Sure. It's just monster arenas connected end to end. That's not like hell. Those are the end air quotes levels.

Well, they did say welcome to hell at the beginning. If you do it, you do it at the first one, you do it. And you're like, all right, yeah, Doom 2016, it plays like you've got the air dash like it's just Doom 2016. Plays like that, just not as good.

And you only get two weapons and you're not Doom guy, which is kind of the whole point of playing Doom. And I have these two shitty AI bot campaigns that are attached to me. But you know, fun enough shooting through this monster arena, let's get to the level. All right, another monster arena.

Okay. All right, a three person jumping puzzle I have to solve with bots. That was frustrating. But here we are at the level.

Oh, it's a monster arena again, another monster arena. And that's the game. Oh, they don't even call them levels. They call them raids.

You go on a raid. And if you earn enough points, you can unlock a new weapon. And it's just, does it feel different than the old weapon at least? I don't know.

I didn't play long enough to unlock any games. It takes a million points and it fucking sucks. That's unfortunate. It's just, and I was like, I can't handle this.

And I went to play original pain killer and got sidetracked playing return castle wolfenstein which is good for his person shooter. Yeah, a little dated, but good, still fun. I also played the PlayStation Plus as a time to demo for the new, I don't even know what to call this category of game, but it's the category of game that like slay the spire, Balotro, and vampire survivors all exist in the like addictive indie darling thing. Yeah.

Like addictive, affordable indie darlings. I don't know what to call it, you know, like they're totally different games, but you know what I mean? They fit the same category. Yeah, to scratch an itch.

Which I'm calling ball cross pit because there's an X between the two words, ball X pit. Yeah, I've heard that. It's like a forced scrolling rogue light, arcanoid bullet hell vampire survivors. I heard it was like a bullet heaven arcanoid.

Ish Ish. Yeah, I don't know. It's tough to explain. I don't know if it's going to end up in that I haven't bought it yet.

I played through the demo and I was like, that was fun. I'm not in love with it, but I don't totally want to disqualify it yet. I don't know. But it could be it could end up in that category for me, but I'm like, you go back to town and it's got the same thing.

Loop your head where it's like, okay, now harvest your resources and build buildings. I don't want to do that. I want to go do fucking arcanoid. That's all I'm here for.

Yeah. I've noticed that I've become pickier with that that weird addictive game genre than I was when vampires fibers came out. I think it's because vampire survivors nailed it all so well in that moment of time. Yeah.

And continues to improve upon it that everything has to be judged against. Or are you going to be as good as vampire survivors right out the gate and if not, maybe not as things to look at. Also if you're only as good, are you also $2? Yeah, exactly.

That's the other it's like it's an impossible metric. Right. But yeah, I'll play through that. It's interesting.

I don't know if I were trying to do it or not. I played through the demo and I was like, I'll leave it on my home screen on my PlayStation and see if I feel urged. Fair. And we'll go from there.

What have you been playing? So I wanted to mess around with my PSVR 2 again because it had been a little while and I wanted to make sure that one, it still works. Right. See if I can get any more enjoyment out of it.

Right. And so that there's still no PSVR 2 games being released. Correct. Well, I haven't plugged into my PC because it's not a crazy person.

Yeah. Yeah. Well, kind of the thing is there's no drivers for it for Linux. Oh, OK.

You have to go into Windows for it. There is a team that is working on trying to get it to work in Linux, but it's still in very early development. So you have to reboot into Windows to use it, which meant that I rebooted into Windows for the first time in like a month. Every individual program on my computer was like, I also want to update.

Oh, yay. Yay. And it's like in Linux, you just run the one console update and it updates all your programs at once. But Windows is like, no, no, I want to update and also I want to update as well.

And I had not missed that in the slightest in the time that I had not been spending with Windows. Once you get used to package managers and Linux, you're like, I can't believe they should just go fucking Google and download shit off the internet like a caveman. Right. So I did all my updates on everything and then I rebooted and discovered that I had been updated to Windows 25H2.

Yay. Yeah. So I had some issues there. Finally got it to work.

We are for like five minutes and was like, no. Yeah. No, thank you. Not feeling it right now.

So I was playing around with my Steam library. I pulled up E's versus Trails in the sky, which came out recently. Yes. I wanted to pick it up and I'm waiting until I played more of the games so I can appreciate it more.

Yeah. Yeah. It's very much just a generic crossover fighting game. Like it feels, it feels like somebody wanted to remake Power Stone in the engine of E7, which is fine.

It's neat. It's cute. The new translation in Dubber both very good. They are clearly, it's the same voice actors as in the other Trails games, I believe.

And the localization is from the fan translation. All of it is a good quality. The conversion is very good because it's basically just a PSP game ported to modern consoles, but they did a really good job of modernizing all the menus and everything so that even though it still feels like it is that PSP game ported, that it has enough native controls and everything that you can adjust the settings that you need to adjust and everything. I'm hoping it gets a physical release because I don't mind on GOG if I did it.

Is it? Yeah, LRT is releasing it. God damn it. That's what you said when we said that on the show a couple weeks ago.

So it is getting a physical release from LRT. They have not yet said win just soonish. But it's neat. I picked it up on Steam just to play around with it.

And then I also downloaded the demo of something called dead letter department, which is a narrative horror adventure game. It's a spooky season. I got to do spooky shit. And so you play as a dude who works in this dystopian, sad future where you're forced to type in the addresses on letters that the AI couldn't properly read, which is a real thing.

That is a job that happens in the real life. It's done by thousands of people. And in this world, you're the last one. You're the one you get to sit alone in an office and type in shit.

And I can't tell if it wants to be tongue in cheek bunny horror or if it just wants to be horror or just depressing. Yeah. Yeah. And so it could be typing in letters and typing in letters.

And then all of a sudden you get a letter and it's just like this diatribe from some guy talking about trimming his testicles off. And I can't tell if it's meant to be funny or dark or disgusting. And so I'm and then like it'll have like your lights go off and then it is actually unnerving. And then you have to leave your computer and walk through empty corridors back to your home and everything.

It is very, very dark, but it handles the tone of everything exceptionally well. Like it, whatever it is trying to hit, it hits it beautifully. Like they have figured out what tone they want. They have nailed it down.

There is a demo that you can download on Steam and try out. I mean, you won't. People who are interested in horror stuff, it is worth checking out of this neat. Yeah.

I'm already upset and creeped out by all of you. And I'm already not looking forward to my future where the only jobs available are doing things that AI couldn't do. Right. Yeah.

That part of it feels too real to me. I don't know how to feel about that. Yeah. I was just looking it up to see if it's like Pixalee or like regular 3D.

It kind of feels like a lower volume looking thing. Yeah, like somewhere between PS1 graphics and low budget modern graphics. Yeah. Interesting.

Let's do the news. Okay. So slightly different. Yeah.

So it's got to be a bid. Yeah. We have a dedicated drawer forum in the living room and those are just the ones I use in its full. Yeah.

I'm grateful. Konami announces the 26 year old Silent Hill franchise has finally broken 10 million units within the one year old Silent Hill to remake accounting for two and a half million of those units. Yeah, I find this both exciting because it's nice that it's a nice thing. But also kind of sad because there are several Resident Evil games that have hit 10 million on their own.

Yeah. And so it's a little sad. I'm glad that Silent Hill to remake has sold so many units. That's hell of a game.

Highly recommended. Yeah. Hallmark unveiled a new so weird. It's like they found a box in the back of their warehouse and they're like, can we sell these?

A new Xbox 360 Christmas ornament that plays in the Halo theme? Well, they did the other retro console ornaments a couple of years ago. Like they'd done like a little Genesis and a Dreamcast or something. And so this is just the progression of that line.

It just occurred to me. You said retro and I was like, no, it's an Xbox 360 Saturn. Yeah, that 20 year old console Xbox 360. Oh my God.

Oh, I'm ancient. Yeah. This holiday season is the 20th anniversary of the Xbox 360. So no, you know, no, the Xbox 360 is now as old as the NES was when the Xbox 360 released.

Oh, roast. Yeah. Luigi's Mansion added to Nintendo Switch Online Plus for Switch 2. So if you got about three hours to kill, then there you go.

Play some Luigi's Mansion. It's fun getting out. Yeah. Hong Kong 2097 is sequel to the unlicensed SNES game.

Hong Kong 97 is being released this December on Steam. Is this the Hong Kong 97 I'm thinking of? Yep. It absolutely is.

Uh huh. Oh my God. Does it also have for it? Yeah, yeah, yeah.

It doesn't the original also have Art of Kim Jong-il in there? I believe so. Yeah. I think he's in the cover.

Oh, yeah. This is got this is exactly what you pictured. Is it exactly what I pictured? Yeah, this is pretty much completely it.

This looks like some terrible trash going on the list. This is even a great meta game or unplayable garbage and I'm here for it either way. Yeah, I do appreciate that you immediately admitted that it was going on your wish list. Of all the games get a sequel.

Hong Kong 2097. Hong Kong 97 was not on my bingo card and never would have been because it's just it's why. Trash, yeah. It's like making little red hood too.

Like why'd you do it? The next N64D compilation is Duke Nukem Zero Hour. For some reason. For some reason people couldn't get enough.

The RetroArch port of DOSBox is being released as a standalone client called DOSBox Pure Unleashed. Which I'm excited for. DOSBox is like regular vanilla DOSBox as a interface and UI is still kind of clunky. It's fine if you already know DOS.

It's functional if you know DOS. Yeah, if you don't it's a little weird and sometimes editing config files and stuff. It's not like clean, you know, in modern. I've been using DOSBox X for a while and so hopefully this will be a good additional alternative.

It has some nice UI. Xbox dev kits are also rising in price because fuck the consumers and the developers. Yeah, I think they said it went up from like 1500 to 2 grand or something like that. That's a lot.

Yeah. I don't. Microsoft Y. At some point it feels like they're trying to intentionally sabotage the brand.

Yeah, that's what it feels like. Because man, you guys had such a good thing going so long. And we all knew the crash was coming because it's Microsoft. This is how it goes with them.

My guess is that the Activision purchase was so large that management finally realized what all they were doing. Yeah, I think it would be a thing where they're like fuck man, we just realized what we've saddled ourselves with. Yeah. And also our whole thing is that everything's available day one on Game Pass that we have to offer and now if we do that we lose money and we can't just keep hemorrhaging cash.

That's why they're not doing that anymore. Yeah. Even more Castlevania is coming to vampire survivors with an update to the O2 Castlevania DLC. How?

Even more Castlevania. It already had all the Castlevania. It's now you can play as Simon Belmont's loincloth. I hope they had Kid Dracula.

Oh, that would be fun. I haven't watched the trailer for it. I still haven't unlocked everything in vampires because it feels insurmountable. There's so much shit now.

It increasingly feels insurmountable. It's insane. It's just this constant. It's insane.

Yeah. Like the point of what I love about vampire survivors, I know we are, I think we did an episode on the game at this point. But what's amazing about it is that it becomes such a thing where like I unlocked the character that literally can't die months ago. And I'm still sitting down to play the game over and over and over with new characters over and over and over and over.

Because it's not even about completing the runs anymore. It's just like, what shit can I find? It's amazing. What an amazing game.

Oh, yeah. M2 has released the sequel to Tito's 1989 Schmup Night Striker called Night Striker Gear. Also not on my bingo card, but I'm okay with it. Even more games to add to Intu's repertoire of games that they personally developed as weird late stage sequels to earlier stuff, long Salamander and Phantasy Zone 2W and everything else.

PlayStation Plus users who previously redeemed Yakuza like a dragon as a PlayStation Plus essential game to keep are losing the game from their libraries because it was added to PlayStation Plus extra because even Sony doesn't fucking know how this shit works. Yeah, it's a it's really and they sent a warning out to the user saying don't play it on extra or you lose it from your library. But a lot of people already had. Yeah, I also don't just don't fix your shit, Sony.

Yeah, maybe fucking try. Yeah, just try just at this point. I just want to feel like you're trying. You've had this PS Plus extra tier for years now.

You know this is a problem. Fix it. Yeah, no, they do. You know what they're going to do instead.

Nothing. Yeah, nothing is correct. You nailed it. I did.

Laos Adoobesoft shocking. Also reports that 1200 games journalists have left the industry in the last two years as because there is no industry left to leave. We are we are we are we for years. Gaming Press was already drowning in SEO in previews and thinly veiled ads and everything's about the review and nothing's about the features anymore and nobody actually gives a shit.

Just give us the review number. Now it's just AI regurgitating what other AI is already set. Yeah, and it's just trying to get you to click Amazon affiliate links. I know there are some good journalists out there doing work, but I mean it.

They're drowned out at this point. Yeah. Yeah, the content they want to make is not profitable enough and hasn't been for a decade. Yeah, it's frustrating.

I was looking through again. I'm not doing my phone anymore. So when I'm on the shitter, I read old PC gamer magazines. It's funny.

The first time around, I just wanted to read the reviews in them because that's what we're all here for. Right. But this time around, I'm reading the special features and stuff in the bag and I'm like, there's some really good stuff in here. Yeah.

But nobody cares. Click our Amazon affiliate links, please. Yep. I counter strike two update wipes one billion from the market cap of skins for knives and clubs.

What they did was they made it easier to get certain drops and then immediately crashed a portion of the counter strike two skins secondary market. This I am constantly surprised by the existence of these things that like I feel like I'm pretty deep in the video game culture and then I constantly am reminded that like no, you're not. Yeah, shit like this and Eve online and Roblox and I read this morning that Rocket League and fall guys are being ported to Fortnite. What?

And then I had to read that again because that doesn't make sense to me. And apparently Fortnite is becoming a games platform instead of a game. And they are going to discontinue the previous standalone versions of Rocket League and fall guys after they port them into Fortnite so that you'll have to use Fortnite as a launcher to get into those games. Kill me.

Yeah. I know someone who put a down payment on a house by selling a skin and counter strike that they had gotten as a drop during a Twitch stream for $10,000. Good lord. Yeah.

Yeah, that's real. Obscene. The real thing. That shouldn't be.

At this point I'm like it's just money laundering or something. It's got to be what it is. I don't understand. Retro games, the company, not the concept of retro games, has confirmed the Amiga 1200 recreation is coming in June 2026.

It's neat. I like these full size computer remakes. Yeah. Yeah.

I just got a full working keyboard. Yep. It's cool. Cool.

Edia is compiling six classic Telenet Japan games for rerelease on Switch early next year. The games are Lady Phantom, Travel, Yupo, Decoboco, Dinsetsu, Hygrenadier, Narita, and the other territory and pop in magic. I mostly put that in there to see if I can get you to pronounce all of them. Yeah.

Well, there you go. English release, unannounced and unlikely. I do like pop in magic. That's a fun game.

If you have that one I know of. Yeah. If you have a PC Engine emulator laying around, give that one a shot. It's neat and cute and fun.

Which brings us to our topic at hand. Which is we 101. We 101. No.

Because the Wii is nearly as old as the NES was when the Wii Virtual Console first made NES games available. Yep. Because we're all a million billion years old. Yes.

My god, we're so old. Where does the time go? Yeah. I am older than my dad was when I used to make fun of hell.

He was. No. Yeah. As a note, we will be America-centric here because this is where we live.

We can only cover really one price category before we just end up having to sit here listening prices all night. So if you're not North America, this may or may not apply to your market things may be different where you are. But this is what it's like where we are. Yes.

Also, prices as usual are quoted from price charting. This means the prices will be ballparks usually on the lower end. If you just want to go hit by it now and eBay, these prices are lower than you're going to be able to find. This is like Ham and a go out and struggle and find an auction and kind of make some sense.

It's a little more work than just click one button and you're done. But if you're willing to put in the labor, you can get kind of around these prices. Also, you can get around these prices at GameStop for some reason. GameStop sells some of this and it's a weirdly.

The downside is you have to buy from GameStop. Correct. That's the problem. And ever buying from their website, if you are forced to buy from them, go find it in store and look at it before you buy it, especially anything we related.

Right. Because we sell it with these and abuse. It's nasty as hell. Yeah.

Real gross. Real gross. And we released in North America on the 19th of November 2006 in Japan on the 2nd of December, same year, European and Australian territories on the 7th of December and other regions varying between 2007 and 2009 and was discontinued in Australia in 2011 and other regions in 2013 slash 2014. As far as...

Which was more than 10 years ago. Shut up. I don't like when you do that. How dare you tell me how long ago something was?

First encounter is I worked at GameStop doing launch, so I had mine set aside to take home on launch night. I worked at the launch and it was the source of mini hangouts. I even caught my mom playing virtual console on it a few times. So it really was very much a kind of brought people together kind of device.

I never had people that wanted to come over to my house and play games before. That never happened before in my life until I would have been 17 when this came out. Games were a solitary thing that I did and then we came out and I was like, oh you got a week and I come over and play it. And before I knew it, we would have little parties.

There would be five or six people over and we'd be playing Wii games. Right. And I was like, this is amazing. Is this what my life will be like now?

And the answer is for about three months and then never again. Our house was the game house for many years, but by the time that we came out, I was already living on my own and that was over. Yeah. Yeah.

I had originally intended on skipping the Wii when it came out, or at least getting it after launch anyway. But then I had a friend who worked at GameStop who messaged me at like 8 p.m. that night. He was like, hey, we still have one left.

Do you want it? And I was like, yeah, guess fine. So he bought it. I met up with him after work, gave him 300 bucks and took home a week.

And then I played some Wii Sports in Zelda for a few days and ran out in the middle of the night to buy a Classic Controller while my girlfriend at the time was still asleep at my apartment. And I came home and I'm holding a Classic Controller and two Wii 2000 points cards. And she's just staring at me like, where did you go? And I was like, I went to Walmart.

I had to go buy a Classic Controller and some Wii points cards. She's like, why? I was like, because I have to play Sim City on the Wii. Yeah.

So I can play Super Nintendo games quick. Unplug the Super Nintendo. It's a right. Exactly.

Yeah. And I already owned that we're sitting right next to the television. There you go. I played them on the Wii instead.

For people that don't remember, our 101 episodes are more collecting oriented. It's more kind of like, hey, if you want to get into this system today in 2025 as we're recording it, what does it look like? What should you look for? What should you buy?

That sort of stuff. So with that in mind, Saturn, why don't you take us through the actual console itself and the revisions thereof that people are going to be seeing on the market? Yeah. So there's four main versions that you're going to be looking at.

The original one, the standard one, which is the model number on this RVL001. The original base model that came out when the console released fully compatible with all Wii games and GameCube games, though some of them have bad DVD ROMs or at least TV ROMs that aren't compatible with some Wii games because when the system originally launched the DVD ROM was only single layer compatible. And then when Smash Bros. came out as a dual layer DVD, Nintendo had to replace DVD drives on these.

And some people said their reasons. Some people didn't. And also they're old, so they could be dying anyway. Yeah.

I will say, disk drives going out on Wii's is pretty common. Mine finally went out long ago, but thankfully it's fully hacked. So just be prepared for that. Even if yours works, be prepared to either replace it, which isn't too terrible of a task if you're coming up opening stuff up or just hack it is where you can end up.

But just just thrown it out there for especially these original models. Be prepared for the disk drive to if it works now, it will not in the future. Yeah, very well likely we'll go out. Yeah.

So the original model full GameCube support, full GameCube ports, GameCube memory card slots also supports Wi-Fi 3, which is what they now call 802.11G wireless, the 54 megabits wireless, and it is available in white, black or red. So if you see a red console, it is this one. And I'll tell you, try not to get a white one if you have to buy it sight unseen because that's going to be gross. Man, they got gross.

What's weird is so the plastic doesn't seem to be yellowing on weeze, which thankfully, but like some of the edges of the plastic and the feet and stuff on a lot of them have gotten real orangy. Yeah, it's just so gross looking now. I don't know why. Definitely get a black one if you that that's the best color.

Right on the right. Okay. Then you have the revision, the RVL 101, which in Europe was called the family edition over here. They just called the Wii and just told us to figure it out.

So it's not compatible natively with GameCube games. It has no GameCube controller memory card slots. If you hack the system and play GameCube games just fine. So the hardware internally is still there.

It just doesn't take the disks. It's also incompatible with any Wii games that use the GameCube controller ports like Dance Dance Revolution and a couple of others. And it is available in white, black or a light blue color. It's a very pretty light blue.

Unfortunately, it has no GameCube ports, so I don't care which is sad. Then you have the RVL 201, which is the Wii Mini. It's the goofy looking one. It was originally Canada exclusive, but later came out in other regions.

It's driving a little old disc man. You just press it and it pops up. It's a pop loader. Yeah.

It came out in really 2012. And it looks goofy. It does not play GameCube games. It has no GameCube controller memory card slots.

It also does not have an SD card slot. It does not have an internal Wi-Fi adapter. It is not compatible with the USB Ethernet adapter. It does not output 480p.

It only outputs 480i. Basically, don't buy this. Now there are hardware mods to re-enable all of those things. There's also now a homebrew utility to hack the console and allow it to re-enable its USB ethernet support.

You can theoretically get this thing to do the same things the other models will, but it's not worth all your time ever or anything. I forgot to mention at the base model, the original model sells these days for between $50 and $75. The revised model does not have GameCube support. It sells for between $50 and $100.

And then the Mini sells for around $75. So it's not worth spending extra when you could spend less and get the original model that does everything. The only reason to go for a Mini if you're going to be getting into the Wii is you already own one or it's free or something. If you found one in a dumpster, then maybe look into the next scene.

I wouldn't go out and buy one of these. There's really no reason to. It's kind of a really shitty Wii, especially without Wi-Fi. It's just a...

Or SD Sport or SD Sport. It's a real sex pain in the ass. Yeah. No one bother.

All right. And then you have the last option, which is the Wii U. These are selling these days between $80 and $125 depending on size and color. The disk drive won't take the Mini DVDs of GameCube games, so you have to use a hack or backup media to play them.

Otherwise, the virtual Wii on there acts just like the 101 console, the revised model. However, you do have native HDMI output up to 1080p and you have better Wi-Fi support to do Wi-Fi in so you'll get better speeds there. Once you hacked the virtual Wii on there, it effectively acts just like any other hack we would. Yeah.

But you do have that native HDMI output, which is nice. Which is awesome. Yeah. It does kind of take away one of the big reasons to have a Wii in a hack Wii, which is 240p and 480p over component.

You can't still do 480p over component. Oh, that's true. You could. Well, it won't do 240 though.

I don't think it'll do 240, but I haven't tested it. It will do... Now I'm kind of second guessing myself in my own. It'll definitely do 480p over component.

I don't know if it'll do. Because all the video settings are handled through the Wii use menu. So that will only go down as far as 480p, but I don't know if then using the button combination to boot a virtual console game into 240p or work or not. So I have no idea.

I'm not sure. More investigation required. I think we use a good option, especially if you're interested in Wii U. It's not terribly much more expensive.

The big thing to watch out for is the gamepad condition. We use 10 to be in better condition just because nobody fucking bought them. People did. We took decent care of them.

But the touch screen on that is capacitive. And that means it's got that little shitty plastic layer over it that gets scratched up real, real easy. You'll also have to probably replace the battery in the gamepad. But beyond that, if you're just after the Wii side of things, the Wii in it works great.

It's a Wii. So if you're interested in both... And if you do have the gamepad, you can play Wii games on that gamepad as long as you update the firmware on the Wii U. And then you can even point the Wii remote at the screen, the cameras IR on the Wii U gamepad X as the sensor bar for the Wii remote.

So it'll let you point at that screen as well, which is neat. Yeah, you can do that. It's not great. But it does technically work as a teeny tiny Wii.

Let's talk controllers. North America, they came with one Wii remote and one Nunchuk. I think it's standard worldwide, but at least here in the US it did. There is the Wii Motion Plus and there are two versions.

There's the add-on that clicks into the bottom of your Wii remote that adds the Motion Plus capabilities. And then there are Wii remotes with Motion Plus built in. It'll say on the remote, Motion Plus built in. Really there's no reason to get original Wii remotes if you're planning on doing any motion-based stuff if you have the option for the Motion Plus ones.

But they do cost a bit more. Yeah, a little bit more. However, they're still relatively common. I was able to pick up a couple of Wii Motion Plus official name brand OEM controllers for my family for around 20 bucks each.

Not bad. Not bad. You will need a Nunchuk for a few... That was hardy games.

There's a good amount of games that use it. Classic controller and Classic controller pro. I was a pro. I use it heavily.

Yeah. I went the pro once that came out. I prefer the grips. And also the shoulder buttons are in a terrible place on the original Classic controller.

If you're going to be emulating, it's a pretty good controller for playing Classic games. It's not outstanding or anything. It's decent, but it does the job. It's also supported in a lot of actual games.

You can play it on it. Monster Hunter tries and it's supported it. There's a few. GoldenEye game on there support.

Yeah, GoldenEye did. The Wii balance board, if you want to do Wii Fit, is kind of vital for that if you want a big plastic board to tell you that you're fat. Yeah. No, it tells you you're a beast, sir.

Oh, right. Excuse me. That's a beast. You will see a ton of shitty accessories, plastic accessories and music accessories, wheels, tennis and guns, all kinds of stuff.

Now a lot of these things are useless. Like the tennis rackets and golf clubs and wheels and guns and everything. Those are all effectively useless. They don't do shit.

They don't need them. But the instruments are required for those games. Yeah. No, I don't know.

For my money, I don't feel like the Wii versions of Rock Band or Guitar Hero were ever particularly. Yeah. They're not any more worth of the other consoles. Yeah.

Yeah. So I mean, that's just me. If you're really into those, then something you might need to look into. But all the other plastic tat that you see out there is just it's junk.

Don't bother with it. You really don't need it. It's kind of fun to have as ever. Yeah, I was going to say the only thing I think is the Zapper for like Lynx Crossbow training, but that's so specific and niche and honestly the new where the games they use that as Zapper too.

Yeah, but like not good ones. There's House of the Dead 2 and 3 in House of the Dead Overkill. Okay. Yeah, I forgot about those.

That's fair. That's fair. Those would be fun with the Zapper. Yeah.

And the Resident Evil like on games also used it. Yeah. Let's talk cables and video connections. Obviously it supports component and composite.

Yeah. Unlike the GameCube, Wii component cables are relatively easy to come by and affordable. They were made able to be made by third parties. So there's plenty of them out there.

There is an RF adapter for the console. Oh, joy. Don't do that. Don't do that.

And in Europe they had SCART standard out of the box, which we did not. We had composite out of the box. Yeah, but yeah, go component. If you can.

There were official component cables, which are decent quality, I believe there are still current aftermarket ones. I want to say, retrovision might make some problem, but I'm not totally sure if they do. I have some of their cables. They're very high quality.

They're usually around 50 bucks or so. Yeah. Let's talk HDMI adapters. I've never used one of these on the Wii.

So I'm trusting your judgment on this. It's tricky. I'm right around when people were adopting HD TVs and mass. And there are a lot of shitty Wii HDMI adapters that's just straight component into HDMI.

They're cheap. I've got a couple. They're not great. They will do the job.

They will upscale your image, but they don't do so very well and they may or may not introduce varying levels of lag. It's while I've not used it because I use component for my Wii 99% of the time. The electron warp by Electron Shepherd is a very well regarded HDMI adapter. And while it is more expensive than the cheaper ones you'll find on Amazon, it's still only $24.

Oh, yeah, that's not bad. So if you really want to do HDMI and you don't want to spring for the extra $20.30 for a Wii U, then the extra $20.30 to get one of these shipped to you might be worth it if that's the route that you want to go with it. There's a sensor bar. If you buy a Wii, it's probably going to come with a sensor bar.

And there are a lot of third party wireless sensor bars and stuff. And the sensor bar is just like a little IR light. Right. Yeah, it's just a pair of IR lights.

Yeah. Yeah. The thing about the sensor bar is one, its cable is teeny, teeny, tiny. It's super thin.
