REVEALED: Kevin Young TARGETS Obinna Ekezie Jr.—Future of BYU Basketball Center Position in BALANCE? | Future pf BYU Football in NFL Draft is Bright! | BYU Baseball & Golf Chase Postseason Fates

BYU Basketball is on the brink of a bold youth movement, placing its center hopes on five-star prodigy Obinna Ekezie Jr. The 17-year-old, who plans to reclassify, has emerged as the leading candidate to fill the Cougars’ gaping hole at the five. Can head coach Kevin Young outmaneuver heavyweights like Arkansas and Louisville in a high-stakes recruiting battle to land Ekezie Jr., a potential lottery pick? Jake Hatch breaks down how Ekezie’s size, athleticism, and defensive reputation—highlighted by MVP honors at the Basketball Without Borders camp—could transform BYU’s frontcourt overnight. The episode also explores the significance of Bruce Branch III’s top-10 NBA potential and where transfers like Adam Stewart fit into the program’s rapidly evolving roster equation. As transfer portal season heats up, Jake Hatch investigates BYU’s pursuit of alternative bigs, examining why names like Julius Halaifonua and Luigi Suigo may be out of reach and what it means for the program’s depth if Ekezie Jr. is the final piece. The conversation pivots to BYU’s ascent in the Big 12’s national spotlight, emphasizing how a dynamic pairing of Ekezie Jr. and Branch could make the Cougars must-watch TV—even in the absence of AJ Dybantsa. With other schools stockpiling talent, will BYU’s calculated risk pay off or leave them scrambling for answers in the paint? Shifting focus to BYU Football, the program is primed for what could be its most impressive NFL Draft class in years. Jake Hatch highlights a robust list of prospects starting with running back LJ Martin, whose size and skill set could make him a mid-round selection. The episode spotlights defensive stars Isaiah Glasker, Evan Johnson, and Tre Alexander, along with linemen Bruce Mitchell, Keanu Tanuvasa, Justin Kirkland, and Andrew Gentry, all poised to catch the eye of pro scouts. Rising talents like safety Faletau Satuala and tight ends Roger Saleapaga II and Walker Lyons add depth to BYU’s NFL pipeline potential. Closing out, listeners get updates on BYU Baseball’s relentless Big 12 playoff push after a statement series win over Arizona, and recognition of legendary BYU men’s golf coach Bruce Brockbank’s retirement after 34 remarkable years. Will Todd Miller be his successor, and can the Cougars finish the season with a postseason berth? Get the essential insights and storylines shaping BYU sports this week.
