Revelation 16:15
from Armageddon on SermonAudio Hosted by Dr. R.C. Smelcer
Revelation 16:15 is one of the most interesting interruptions in the chapter. In the middle of the vial judgments, as wrath is being poured out and the world is moving toward Armageddon, Christ speaks and says, *"Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame"* **(Revelation 16:15)**. This message looks at what it means for Christ to come as a thief, not in the sense that He is stealing, but in the sense that He comes suddenly, unexpectedly, and in a way that exposes the unprepared. It also looks at the blessing attached to watchfulness. The word "blessed" points to a joy and favor from God that the world cannot give and cannot take away. The believer is called to watch, stay awake spiritually, and live ready for the coming of Christ. The sermon also deals with the phrase "keepeth his garments," showing that garments in Scripture often point to testimony, righteousness, and spiritual condition. From Jeremiah's soiled girdle to Jude's warning about garments spotted by the flesh, the Bible reminds us that what God gives clean must be guarded carefully. Christ warns that if we do not watch and keep our garments, we may walk naked and our shame be seen. That is a picture of spiritual exposure, a neglected walk, and a testimony that has not been guarded. The message is simple: Christ is coming, and the blessed man is the one who is watching, ready, and keeping his garments clean. The world may be asleep, distracted, and unprepared, but the child of God ought to live with this thought close to the heart: perhaps today.
