Revelation 19-22

from The Safe Space · host Esther Parham

Welcome to The Safe Space! Where we last left off in the Bible, Babylon had fallen, and heaven rejoiced as God’s righteous judgment came upon the corrupt powers of the world. Now, the final chapters of Revelation bring the story to its breathtaking climax—the victory of Christ, the defeat of evil, the final judgment, and the creation of a new heaven and new earth. Heaven erupts in praise as a vast multitude celebrates God’s salvation and justice. The twenty-four elders and four living beings worship before the throne. The Lord God Almighty reigns, and the wedding celebration of the Lamb has arrived. His bride, representing God’s faithful people, is prepared and clothed in fine linen. Then heaven opens. John sees a white horse, and its rider is called Faithful and True. His eyes blaze like fire, many crowns rest upon His head, and His robe is dipped in blood. His name is the Word of God. The armies of heaven follow Him as He rides out to judge and wage war in righteousness. The beast and the kings of the earth gather their armies against Him, but their rebellion ends in defeat. The beast and false prophet are captured and thrown alive into the lake of fire, while their armies are destroyed. Then an angel seizes the dragon—Satan—and binds him for a thousand years, locking him in the bottomless pit so he cannot deceive the nations. John sees those who remained faithful to Jesus come to life and reign with Christ. When the thousand years end, Satan is released for a short time. He deceives the nations once more and gathers them against God’s people. But fire falls from heaven and consumes them. Satan is then thrown into the lake of fire forever. Next comes the final judgment. John sees a great white throne, and the dead, great and small, stand before God. Books are opened, including the Book of Life, and everyone is judged according to what they have done. Death and the grave are thrown into the lake of fire, along with everyone whose name is not found in the Book of Life. Then everything changes. John sees a new heaven and a new earth. The old order has passed away, and the holy city, the new Jerusalem, descends from heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. A mighty voice announces that God’s home is now among His people. He will live with them, and they will be His people. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death, sorrow, crying, or pain. The One seated on the throne declares that He is making everything new. An angel shows John the bride of the Lamb—the holy Jerusalem. The city shines with God’s glory. Its gates are pearls, its foundations bear the names of the apostles, and there is no temple because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. There is no need for sun or moon, because God’s glory illuminates the city. From the throne flows the river of the water of life, clear as crystal. The tree of life grows beside it, bringing healing to the nations. Nothing evil will enter the city. God’s servants will see His face, serve Him, and reign forever. Finally, Jesus declares, “I am coming soon.” The story ends in victory. Evil is defeated, death is gone, the curse is removed, and God dwells with His people forever. And John’s final response echoes through eternity: “Come, Lord Jesus!” The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Verse of the Day: Psalm 100:4-5 Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him, bless his name. For the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations. Question of the Day: What does it look like for you to put on a garment of praise today?
