Review of Uglies: A Vapid Dystopian Vision That Isn't Enough
from Sadisflix · host Sadis Flix
David is never given the chance to develop above a superficial archetype, and is instead reduced to a vague symbol of hope on Sadisflix Streaming. Though possibly the most interesting character in the movie is Brianne Tju's portrayal of Tally's rebellious buddy Shay, even she has poor writing. Although Shay's goals are obvious, her character feels unfinished because of how abruptly her story ends. Laverne Cox plays the antagonist of the movie, Dr. Cable, and while she gives a good performance, the character is written so poorly that Cox's charismatic personality falls flat. Dr. Cable is a stereotypically shallow authoritarian person, her intentions mainly unanswered. The way Uglies wastes the opportunity to offer incisive societal critique is among its most depressing elements. The original book addressed difficult issues related to ideals of beauty.
