Sometimes I think of a comedian I watched one time and the paraphrased quote that I continue to tell myself and to those I assist: “Don’t be the mayor of nothing.” When I was struggling with my condition, I spent countless hours trying to be understood while feeling more and more like a burden. I had to reframe and accept that it did not require others to understand to get the support needed.
