Revolution in English

from Glossarium - Glossário TPM 2021.9 · host Teoria Política Moderna 2021.9

Revolution, in the political sense, is a concrete and deep transformation that generally occurs over the socioeconomic or political-institutional structure. The revolution is produced and executed by a large mobilization and popular representation, which intends to go against the authorities of the system in power. It can be said that a revolution is reached when the changes in the system mark a new order. It is assumed that revolution is intrinsically related to violence, however, the revolution can be understood without violence. The term revolution, in the way it was previously defined, is a concept that was only accepted until after the main events of the 18th century. Before this time, the word revolution was associated with the astronomical field, because it made reference to the eternal and recurrent movement of the celestial bodies; the political use was metaphoric and made reference to the return to a pre-established point, that is, the return to a predetermined order. Specifically, it is during the French Revolution when the possibility of creating a new form of order and instruments of power that ensure freedom and happiness to the people is established. This was the Fortnightly Poetry project for October 16, 2011.Chesterton was a large man, standing 6 feet 4 inches (1.93 m) and weighing around 21 stone (130 kg; 290 lb). His girth gave rise to a famous anecdote. During World War I a lady in London asked why he was not 'out at the Front'; he replied, 'If you go round to the side, you will see that I am.' On another occasion he remarked to his friend George Bernard Shaw: "To look at you, anyone would think a famine had struck England". Shaw retorted, "To look at you, anyone would think you have caused it". P. G.
