“Being able to speak to my patients and being able to equip them with the knowledge they need to be on their own and take care of themselves is what I love the most about pharmacy, and it’s not hard as a pharmacist to do that.” In this episode, Dr. Danielle Plummer is joined by Dr. Ahunna Freeman, a Nigerian American pharmacist who has dedicated her career to improving maternal health in her community. Dr. Freeman completed her undergraduate studies in Chemistry at The University of North Carolina at Asheville and earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree at Campbell University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in 2009. Dr. Freeman began her career as a community pharmacist in a large retail pharmacy chain, where she discovered her passion for problem-solving using her skills and expertise. In 2014, she left corporate America to open Southside Discount Pharmacy with her husband, embarking on a journey of pharmacy ownership, preceptorship, and entrepreneurship. She is also the president of Aligned Care LLC, a healthcare company that promotes a team-based approach to patient care and provides consulting services to healthcare providers and preventive care services for medical practices. Dr. Freeman is a trusted pillar of support for health and wellness in both virtual and in-person communities. The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
