Rewriting the Script: How I Found Myself Through My Son”

from The Accidental Healer , A Japanese holistic therapist’s journey of healing through curiosity, synchronicity, and holistic wellness. Embrace life’s twists to discover purpose and growth.

Episode 5: “Rewriting the Script: How I Found Myself Through My Son” 🎙️ The Accidental Healer Podcast | Hosted by Naomi In today’s deeply personal episode, I open up about one of the most transformative chapters of my healing journey—how becoming a mother made me confront my own childhood wounds. After my son was born, I faced a confusing storm of emotions—exhaustion, guilt, and even boredom. I loved my son more than anything, but I struggled to enjoy motherhood. I found myself reacting with frustration, trying to control him and push my ideas of what he “should” be—just like my parents once did to me. It wasn’t until I took an EFT course near my home—originally just to “skill up” for my therapy work—that everything started to shift. During one demo, I was taken back to a painful memory from my childhood that revealed how much of my parenting, and my beliefs, were rooted in old programming from my family and Japanese culture. That was the moment I realized: I was not parenting from the present—I was parenting from my past. This led me into a deeper exploration of myself. I was invited to study Reiki and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), and what I discovered shook me. For the first time, I understood how words, memories, and cultural conditioning shape our identity—and how they can be rewritten. One day, as I watched my son play in the garden, I felt both regret and clarity. I had been trying to raise him the way I thought was “right,” but I forgot to ask what he wanted. And in that moment, I remembered—I, too, had been a baby once. A pure, beautiful soul. And so was he. This episode isn’t about being a perfect parent. It’s about being honest, learning how our past influences our present, and slowly choosing a different way—one based on compassion, awareness, and presence. 🔹 You’ll hear: How EFT opened the door to understanding my childhood emotions Why I felt unseen and unloved as a child—and how those feelings shaped me How NLP helped me recognize and challenge negative beliefs I’d carried for years The moment I saw myself and my son as equals—each doing our best in this world Whether you’re a parent, a therapist, or someone curious about inner healing, I hope this story helps you feel less alone—and reminds you that it’s never too late to re-parent yourself with kindness.
