President Trump has not signed off yet, Iranian state-linked reporting says the text is not finalized, and Vice President JD Vance says Washington is "not there yet" but very close. So yes, there may be a deal on the runway, but the landing gear is still making a concerning noise.  The episode digs into why Hormuz is the real pressure point. Iran wants a role in managing the waterway, possibly with Oman involved, while Washington is drawing a hard line against tolls, fees, or any Iranian permission-slip system for global shipping. Treasury sanctions on Iran's Persian Gulf Strait Authority make clear the US sees Tehran's move as a maritime shakedown dressed up in official paperwork. Energy markets are watching closely, because roughly one-fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas moved through the strait before the war.  We also cover the money fight behind the diplomacy.
