Iran and the Middle East are entering a much more dangerous phase as the interim arrangement between Tehran and Washington breaks down, the Strait of Hormuz remains restricted, and President Trump widens the crisis by threatening Oman. That uncertainty matters because commercial traffic is operating through shifting permissions, informal understandings, expensive insurance, and constant judgments about who controls each route. Pressure is building around Bab al-Mandeb too. The Houthis claimed a drone attack on a Saudi refinery, while threats near Red Sea ports continue to complicate shipping and energy logistics. Iran and aligned actors can impose risk across two global chokepoints without maintaining a complete formal blockade. Oil markets are pricing in the danger. Brent crude moved above $90 per barrel as the arrangement expired and the ship was struck. Saudi Arabia has restarted limited tanker loadings from terminals inside Hormuz, including three giant vessels carrying a combined six million barrels. The restart offers some relief, but traffic remains selective, expensive, and dependent on protected state-linked movements and offshore transfers. The episode also examines Gaza negotiations, where new working groups on Hamas disarmament, sanitation, public health, and incident management have created a process without solving the central sequence. Israel wants disarmament before withdrawal and reconstruction. Hamas wants attacks stopped and Israeli forces withdrawn first. Syria adds another flashpoint.
