Rich Rosen is the founder and CEO of Cornerstone Search. Since 1996, he’s been working solo (until his recent first hire just this year!), and has placed over 900 software executives and sales professionals with emerging software companies across the United States. Through Cornerstone Search, Rich is ranked by Forbes as one of the top 50 recruiters in America in 2020 and 2021 (#20 in 2021.) Rich was also recently named one of the top 100 Recruiters by Moore's Essentials, and one of the Top 10 Recruiters to follow by Dualta Doherty. This Episode’s Heavy-hitter’s: Rich actually started out working as a stockbroker with Dean Witter, where he learned the power of long hours and aggressive cold calling. He also learned about how to really research companies and wade through the BS of the stock broker/analyst world. Also known as the “Cold Call Killer” (which is not a serial killer pseudonym for the record), Rich has made a career off of his ability to pick up the phone and make things happen. He believes the reason people say cold calling is dead is because they’re lazy or can’t handle the rejection it takes to win. Rich is also a big believer in taking plenty of vacation and takes about 8-12 weeks a year. He sets expectations with clients and then checks in just in case of emergency but takes his time off seriously for how hard he works. Part of the labor shortage that people miss out on is the fact that Baby Boomers are retiring at a rapid rate, compounding the COVID labor shortages and challenges. Rich says that there’s a tricky balance between being greedy as a candidate in today’s candidate-leaning market, and making sure you don’t go overboard and become the first person that gets fired when the labor market pendulum swings backward.
