Richard Capie: Forest and Bird Representative says government is putting conservation land up for sale

from Heather du Plessis-Allan Drive · host Newstalk ZB

Forest and Bird says the government is effectively putting 60% of the country's conservation land up for sale.  The bill, currently making it's way through parliament, would allow the conservation minister more powers to 'exchange or dispose of' public land.  Richard Capie from Forest and Bird told Heather du Plessis-Allan, "It's disgraceful that 60% of this can be looked at for potential sale, and it's not good enough that we're going to look, to open this up for economic development as well." He warns that the bill may apply to more areas than many Kiwis think and says that in the future National parks and landmarks that Kiwis value could be at risk.  LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
