Righteousness by faith, the message of the "Very Elect"

The very elect that Jesus speaks about in Matthew twenty-four verse twenty-four are people who have power that most people don't. "For there shall arise false Christs and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect." According to Jesus' words, they will not be misled by the deceptions of Satan while everyone else will. Who are the very elect and what do they know? Most of all, how can we be one of them?
