Rising oil weighs on sentiment into US CPI data
from 🇬🇧 Stay ahead of the markets with Swissquote · host Swissquote, Ipek Ozkardeskaya, Feyyaz Alingan
Rising oil prices are making the wait for the next US CPI report increasingly nervous. US crude is consolidating near $82 per barrel after surging more than 6% on Monday, as little progress in US-Iran negotiations keeps supply risks elevated and the Strait of Hormuz remains in focus. Higher oil prices are reviving inflation concerns, pushing global yields higher and complicating the outlook for the Federal Reserve. In FX, the US dollar remains under pressure as doubts over Fed independence revive the ‘sell America’ trade, while gold benefits from geopolitical uncertainty, rising debt levels and weaker confidence in US assets. With Fed guidance becoming increasingly opaque, tomorrow’s CPI report could leave markets doing the heavy lifting. Listen to find out more! Ipek Ozkardeskaya has begun her financial career in 2010 in the structured products desk of the Swiss Banque Cantonale Vaudoise. She worked at HSBC Private Bank in Geneva in relation to high and ultra-high net worth clients. In 2012, she started as FX Strategist at Swissquote Bank. She worked as a Senior Market Analyst in London Capital Group in London and in Shanghai. She returned to Swissquote Bank as Senior Analyst in 2020, and launched her own website ipekScope.com in 2025.
