Risky Living | Rev. David Pileggi

from Christ Church Jerusalem · host Christ Church Jerusalem

Risky Living | Rev. David Pileggi For centuries the Parable of the Dishonest Steward has puzzled Bible readers and commentators alike. But in light of contemporary Jewish sources we learn that this parable contains two technical terms used by the Essenes, “mammon of unrighteousness” and “sons of light.” It would seem that Jesus is critiquing the way this group attempted to protect their community from the evils of the world by separatism and hatred of outsiders. This parable is a timely reminder that although we must be careful and not become assimilated into the world, we must also be willing to take risks in relationship with those outside the church in order to be salt and light. Readings: Jeremiah 8:18 - 9:1 - 1 Timothy 2:1-7 - Luke 16: 1-13 Blessed by our teachings? Consider saying thank you with a small (or large) donation. www.christchurchjerusalem.org/donate/
