Con il via libera definitivo del ministero dell’Ambiente, in un fazzoletto di terra del Pavese, dopo oltre 20 anni di blocco sugli ormai vecchi Ogm, parte la prima sperimentazione in campo di una nuova generazione di piante ottenute con le Tecniche di evoluzione assistita (Tea). Procedimenti di precisione, che consentono modifiche del genoma senza l’inserimento di Dna estraneo. La svolta è in Lomellina, cuore pulsante della risicoltura italiana, con i primi test a cielo aperto, di una varietà di riso in grado – si spera - di resistere agli attacchi di un fungo, la Pyricularia oryzae, che causa la malattia nota come "brusone", la più grave patologia fungina del riso che in alcune annate può portare a perdite produttive anche del 50%. Se funzionerà, gli agricoltori avranno un riso più produttivo e che permetterà di utilizzare meno fungicidi. Le difficoltà create dal cambiamento climatico rendono l’alleanza tra scienza e agricoltura improrogabile, come spiega bene la risicoltrice del Pavese Silvia Garavaglia. Le prime prove in campo aperto in Lombardia segnano quindi una vera svolta. Ascolteremo come e perché dalla responsabile del progetto, la biotecnologa Vittoria Brambilla e dall’assessore lombardo all’Agricoltura Alessandro Beduschi, che ha lavorato dal fronte politico. Una piccola prima coltivazione sperimentale, che in attesa dell’iter normativo Ue sulle Tea, apre le porte a un’innovazione potenzialmente indispensabile per l’agricoltore che vorrà e dovrà produrre di più, in modo sostenibile e in pieno cambiamento climatico.
