When Human Complexity Gets Flattened Into Wisdom Two people had rough childhoods. One became bitter. One became kind. “Your choice.” Cute. Also: that is not remotely how human beings work. Welcome to the first episode of ROADKILL: Where Nuance Goes to Die—a new Reality Check My Life subheading where we pick up the pieces of pop psychology, inspirational memes, spiritual platitudes, relationship advice, and cultural wisdom that may have contained something useful before complexity got run over. For our inaugural carcass, we're taking on the seductive idea that overcoming a difficult childhood ultimately comes down to choosing what kind of person you're going to be. Because yes—choice matters. Agency matters. Responsibility matters. But so do temperament, neurobiology, attachment, developmental timing, resources, safety, culture, corrective relationships, nervous-system adaptation, awareness, capacity... and about seven hundred other signs somebody removed from that cute little fork in the road. And there's another inconvenient complication: Kindness itself can be a survival adaptation. People-pleasing can look like kindness. Fawning can look like kindness. Hypervigilant caretaking can look like kindness. Self-abandonment can look like kindness. Meanwhile, the person somebody labels “bitter” might be experiencing anger, setting boundaries, grieving, or finally becoming inconvenient to people who benefited from their adaptations. So we're not throwing choice away. We're putting it back where it belongs: inside the complexity of an actual human life. Because complexity isn't an excuse. Complexity is information. And wisdom that only works after we've flattened the human being probably isn't wisdom anymore. Welcome to Roadkill. Let's see what survives when we put the missing variables back. 💡 Release · Reveal · Respond🎙️Produced by Kavi Apoha Studios 🌕A Zero Point Eclectic Production 💬 Hosted by Gin — Soul Doula, Eclectic Alchemist, founder of ZPE & QFFC. 🎵Theme Song Lyrics: Rev.
