Roads making a case for 9.5hr Shifts. No more 12's.

from Canadian Union Podcast for Employees' · host Scott Cush

We have been approached and informed that the 12hr shifts are going away. Welcoming the 9.5hr shifts even in the winter, in paving, in traffic ops. Everywhere.  We know that the data is suspicious, however management is making this their hill and we have been asked to come up with shifts that will compliment this idea. Consultations will be happening, and I encourage you to voice your input. We know this will mean a lot of extension of shift overtime situations, and we also know that this means a 4-day standard work week vs. the 3-day.  Fatigue is being used as a driving factor, as well as accident reporting stats. Years ago we pressed through this with a survey of Roads staff. From the meeting they presented it was made clear this action is about to happen throughout all of Roads.
