Roald Dahl Retrospective Episode 2: 36 Hours (1965)

In this episode of the Roald Dahl Retrospective, Patricia and Arun go in the correct order discussing about the first adaptation based on Roald Dahl's work, the 1965 war/suspense film 36 Hours based on his 1944 short story Beware of the Dog starring James Garner, Eva Marie Saint, and Rod Taylor. It begins in May 30, 1944 where U.S. Major Jefferson Pike traveled to Lisbon, Portugal after learning about the plans for the U.S. Army's next strike in Normandy, France against the German Army. However, he was drugged and pronounced dead. However, he wakes up in a U.S hospital in Germany where he's told that it's May 1950 and that World War II has long been over. As Pike tries to recollect his lost memories, he suspects that something is wrong.    When the film premiered in theaters, it made $2 million dollars in the box office where it received critical acclaim by critics and viewers. However, it seemed to have lost its status as one of the greatest war films ever made and is not remembered by many people as one of the best Roald Dahl adaptations. Is it an overlooked classic?
