With a dual career in psychology and media, Dr. Nadel is the author of eight books, including Sixth Sense: Unlocking Your Ultimate Mind Power, a four-time best-seller. Her new book The Five Gifts: Discovering Hope, Healing and Strength When Disaster Strikes (Foreword by Dan Rather) was voted one of the Best Books of 2018 by the prestigious Library Journal. A journalist for 20 years, she produced hard news and obituaries for CBS News before deciding to careers due to health issues complicated by burnout from the Iran-Contra hearings. Told by doctors that she would be permanently disabled, she began meditating and learning about alternative healing. This led to her going back to graduate school to earn doctorates in psychology and clinical hypnotherapy with post-doctoral diplomas in Clinical Training in Mind-Body Medicine and Spirituality in Medicine (Harvard Medical School’s Institute of Mind-Body Medicine.) An expert in trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, she has taught her original Emotional First Aid tools to teachers at Marjory Stoneman Douglas after the Parkland school shootings; first responders who were on the scene; Hurricane Sandy Survivors; and teenagers whose fathers were killed in the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center.
