Eddie Upnick was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1953. He graduated from Benjamin Cardozo High School in Bayside, New York in 1971. In 1976, he graduated from New Paltz State University of New York with a BA in Anthropology. He worked as a joke writer for Rodney Dangerfield, among others, and as a ghostwriter off and on between the years 1975-1996. In 1984, Eddie invented Super Chess which was named one of the top ten strategy games of the year by Games Magazine.
