Rob Roy Volume 2 Chapter 11
from The Walter Scott Library Hosted by Sir Walter Scott
In which the travellers, worn by a long and dreary journey through desolate highlands, arrive upon the banks of the reverenced Forth and seek lodging within a remote public-house guarded by wary Highlanders, whose fiery hospitality quickly kindles a tense but spirited conflict. Despite the rudeness and rustic peril of their reception, the evening concludes with a wary truce and convivial toasts, revealing bonds of old acquaintance and the hardy, uneasy fellowship of life upon this wild frontier.
