Rob Roy Volume 2 Chapter 12
from The Walter Scott Library Hosted by Sir Walter Scott
In which the young gentleman Frank Osbaldistone encounters a series of cautionary warnings about the notorious outlaw Rob Roy, mingles with Highlanders whose loyalties and disputes reveal the complexity of their clans and allegiances, and is ultimately detained by a military officer probing for treason in the region. The mingled atmosphere of suspicion, local animosities, and uneasy hospitality paints a vivid portrait of a land enmeshed in ancient grudges and the tensions of government authority.
