I recently interviewed Robbie Gibraltar, the inventor of Benji Lock, a traditional lock with fingerprint technology at the NAMM show in Anaheim, California. Here's what he had to say. Do you want to give a quick explanation of what the Benji Lock is? Yeah, so Benji Lock is the world's first traditional lock with fingerprint technology, which means that you can open it with each of your fingertips, but also with a traditional key.
Awesome. And what made you want to create different types of locks, like the one that works on your door, the bike lock? Well, the idea, to tell you the truth, is started at the gym, because I noticed someone left the key inside the locker, and I'm like, wow, how come there's not a lock that you can open with your fingerprint and also with a key? And that's where the mind started kind of being created.
But then, as you see, locks are universal, so if you're traveling, you need a lock. So that's why we came with a TSA-approved lock. That way the TSA agent doesn't have to card your luggage and they need to check it. And then the same technology we have in a sport lock, in a travel lock, in a bike lock for bikes, and then also in the home.
But in this case, for the music, maybe rehearsal studio. So it's kind of cool expanding that same technology into different ways to apply it. Awesome. And then I have a couple of questions about, like, the Shark Tank business side.
So what did you want to go with Kevin's deal versus everyone else's? Well, I will lie to you. That Shark Tank experience was nerve-wracking. It was scary in a way, but it was good for me.
And I ended up going with Kevin because I felt that, first of all, I used to be in a band before, so I used to sing and all that. And we connected from a music perspective because he also plays guitar, so he loves shredding and all that. So that makes sense. But then also, he's more of a business person, so he'll be straightforward with me, letting me know, hey, this is good for you, this is not good for you.
So I ended up going with him because it felt right, and it's good to have always a mentor in your career. So it's a win-win situation. And then how do you decide, like, which companies to sell that you are with? Well, I mean, you know, shows like this, like the NAMM, it's a great exposure for the company, the brand.
You know, at the moment right now, because we license the technology to Hampton Products. They're known for the Brinks Locks. Right now, we're available at Walmart, Home Depot, Lowe's, very hardware-oriented. But we now expand it into different retail stores, like Urban Outfitters.
So who knows, maybe because of the NAMM show, maybe Guitar Center. You know, so I'm just dropping names there. But my goal is to kind of spread the word about the brand and the products, and hopefully people like it. Awesome.
And then where, and what is it? You have a website on Instagram. Where can people find you? Oh, yeah, BenjiLock.com.
And they can search for us in any other social medias, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, you name it. And we're just rocking it up.
