Robby Albarado, the legendary retired jockey with over 5,200 wins and a career worth more than $221 million, passed away at 52 in his sleep in Saratoga Springs. Still riding horses as an exercise rider in the mornings after retiring in 2021, he’d recently undergone a heart procedure — a stent placement followed by another cardiac event — and was staying with trainer Ken McPeek. McPeek found him Tuesday morning, late for coffee, and called him “one of the best men on a horse” they’d ever known. Albarado’s family history of heart disease tragically contributed to his sudden death. Though some debate whether his past legal issues hurt his Hall of Fame chances, he’ll be remembered as a masterful horseman and beloved figure in racing. The New York Racing Association will honor him with a moment of silence. Listen in comfort:Get a discount on a Soli Pillow: http://solipillow.com/discount/dnn.
