The goal of San Jose State's SLIS program is for its graduates to handle any and all functions that involve capturing, organizing and disseminating information. SLIS core competencies are both goals and guidelines for instruction and professional actualization. Two challenges are: to provide better library and information services to traditional and non-traditional clients; and to adapt to the doubling of knowledge every few months, and the rapid technological advances in software and hardware.
