Rock Solid Radio - Do You Want a Child Centered Home? - Episode 151

from Rock Solid Families · host Rock Solid Families

There is no question that our children are an incredible blessing and a top priority in our life.  But the question of: Do you want a Child Centered Home?, is a question we ask seriously.  Many parents believe a child centered home makes great sense and would be something to strive for. However, if we truly watch what happens and see the results of a child centered home, it actually causes more harm than good.  As parents we have the responsibility to prepare our children to be adults in this world.  Whether we like it or not, adult life is not always easy and we certainly do not get what we want on a regular basis.  Rather, as an adult, we find ourselves working for the sake of something bigger and beyond ourselves. Maybe we work for an employer and we quickly learn we must be a valuable resource for our employer.  Or maybe we are in the military and we understand that we frequently don't get to do what we want and must learn to work for others.    The bottom line is that as adults we all must come to realize that we are here to serve.  We are here for the benefit of each other not just ourselves.  The setback with a setting our home up as a child-centered home immediately positions the needs of the child above the needs of others in the house.  Specifically, we see the needs of the child placed above the needs of the parents as a married couple.  We often serve the children at the expense of the relationship between the parents.   This goes so far as to manifest itself by children sleeping in the bed with the parents and often one of the parents leaving the bed to make room for the child.  Soon the message to the child is that they are to be served and essentially to get what they want.  As a child they often have no understanding of what their demands are costing the marriage or family at large.  This show specifically addresses the reasons why the child - centered home is not the best thing we can do for our children.   Rather, we strive to let our children see that the adults work together for the good of the entire family.  And, this means the adults are leading the family and directing their children to be healthy servants for the good of the rest of the family. Support the show#Rocksolidfamilies, #familytherapy,  #marriagecounseling,  #parenting,  #faithbasedcounseling, #counseling, #Strongdads, #coaching, #lifecoach, #lifecoaching, #marriagecoaching, #marriageandfamily, #control, #security, #respect, #affection, #love, #purpose, #faith, #affairs, #infidelity
