Send us Fan Mail This week on Get Doc’d, we dive into the 2019 documentary Rocketman, the wild, hilarious, and surprisingly heartfelt story of “Mad” Mike Hughes—a retired limo driver, flat-earth believer, and self-proclaimed daredevil—on a mission to launch himself into the sky in a homemade steam-powered rocket. Directed by Toby Brusseau and Michael Linn, Rocketman blends absurdity with ambition as it follows Mike and his ragtag crew of dreamers and skeptics. There’s Pat, the peace-preaching neighbor who’s never without his vape; Waldo, the reluctant rocket expert who denies being friends with Mike despite building his rocket; and, of course, Mike himself—a man who doesn’t believe in gravity but holds a world record for a limo jump. It’s equal parts American Movie and MythBusters meets conspiracy-theory YouTube rabbit hole.
