Rogers Rested, Jays Fall in Wild Card Race | Toronto Blue Jays News

Blue Jays fall 6-5 to Tigers as Tyler Rogers sits out — not because of injury, but because even the submarine specialist needs rest. Manager John Schneider emphasized that no pitcher, not even Rogers with his unique delivery, can go every day. Rogers, a workhorse with a 1.73 ERA and four saves, was coming off a scoreless outing before this one. With him sidelined, the bullpen struggled: Gus Varland threw 31 pitches in the ninth after José Soriano’s no-hitter unraveled in the seventh, leading to a costly error and the win. The loss drops Toronto to 75-76, further slipping them in the wild card race — and with playoffs looming, every game matters, especially bullpen health.
