Rokhl Zicherman and Other Holocaust Survivors for Yom HaShoah

from The 'Yiddish Voice' Podcast

Interviews for Yom HaShoah Rokhl Zicherman lives in Los Angeles and is an Auschwitz survivor from Carpathian Czechoslovakia. She loves to sing with her two sisters who don't live very close, but they often talk by phone. Here she sings In Auschwitzer Lager, describing a fate common to many the many teenagers from this region who were deported to Auschwitz in 1944: being separated from their mothers who were killed at Auschwitz, often due to holding on to younger children of theirs. She also sings a Holocaust 'Dem Milners Trern', a Holocaust version of the song Dem Milner's Trern, written by Mark Varshavski around the turn of the 20th century. Gitu Cycowics (nee Friedman), an Israeli, a resident of Jerusalem, from Carpathian Czechoslovakia and an Auschwitz survivor, discusses her fear for when survivors are gone. Previously aired on the Yiddish Voice Apr 24 2018 in a program in honor of 70th Yom Haatsmaut. Raye David (nee Shlosberg), now in Milwaukee, Holocaust survivor from Vilna, Poland.
