Rolla, MO - Quiet Riot Has Helpful Tips for Senior Citizens

Welcome to Rolla, Missouri,  "The Middle of Everywhere!"  Rolla was established in 1858 and is the seat of Phelps County.  The first house was built in the area in 1842, and the railroad followed about a decade later.  The town was the original terminus of the St. Louis-San Fransisco Railway, better known as the Frisco Line.  Rolla developed into a transportation and trading center, and has remained one for most of its existence.  The town is home to the Missouri University of Science and Technology.  The school was founded as the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy, and was the first technological learning institute west of the Mississippi.  The university has gone through several name changes, ultimately settling on it's current name in 2008.  Rolla is also the location of the headquarters of the Mark Twain National Forest.  Shannon Miller, the second-most decorated American gymnast, was born in Rolla.  Miller was a member of the gold medal-winning Magnificent Seven team at the 1996 Olympics.  We hope you enjoy our visit to Rolla!Small Town News--whose headline is it, anyway? @SmallTownNewsImprov
