Romancing the Dead Zone

A friend who has passed away used to leave these curled leaves and twigs outside my door. They were shaped like little hearts. I found out later she had died. So I made the connection instantly upon reflecting a time years back when a friend of mine and I used to draw hearts on her parents house—got into some trouble for it.
