Romans Part 37 – Romans 11:25-36 Verse 25-27 • “for” – Vs 25 still in the context of Israel’s restoration – Vs 24,26 • “I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant” – This is seen several times throughout Paul’s ministry. Ignorance is a sin – Rom 1:31 • “ye” – vs 2 compare to vs 17-24 – Roman 12:3 • “mystery” – The duration of Israel’s blindness • “lest ye should be wise in your own conceits” – Some may think Israel is not going to be saved and become prideful • “that blindness in part is happened to Israel,” - Prophesied in Isaiah 6:9-10 • “until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in” - Act 15:17, Amos 9:4-12, Luke 21:24-28 – Gentiles would be saved in prophecy too – Isa 2:2, 11:10,49:6-8, 60:3, Rev 15:4, Acts 10. • “And so all Israel shall be saved” - Israel is blind but will be restored which is the conclusion of what Paul is teaching in chapter 9-11 – vs 12, 16, 24. • Isaiah 59:20-21, Jer 31:31-34, Eze 36:33. Verse 28-32 • “As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes” – Israel is a enemy of the gospel because they rejected Christ – Phil 3:18, Gal 1:7 – We have mercy because Israel is a enemy – vs 30 • “but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers sakes” - More proof from scripture that Israel is Gods elect – Isa 45:4, 65:9. • “vs 29” God will not change his mind concerning His promises to Israel – Isa 48:12 • “vs 30” – Because of Israel’s unbelief Gentiles receive mercy. • “vs 31” – Unbelieving Israel receives mercy because God is not sending his judgment yet. • “vs 32” – God concluded Israel and Gentiles in unbelief so that he might have mercy upon all – Eph 1:10 Verse 33-36 • “vs 33” - Paul is uniquely qualified to speak of the depths of the wisdom of God. Not because he was more intelligent than anyone else but because God chose to reveal the mystery to him – Eph 3:1-5, Col 1:25-27, 1Cor 2:10,16. • “vs 34-35” – No man could have come up with the Bible. It has been revealed by God alone. No man can know it unless God revealed it to him. • “vs 36” – All things were created by God and all things belong to him. He deserves all glory – Col 1:16-17. • “amen” - This indicates Paul has finished this section and is seen in the next chapter as Paul begins to deal with how we ought to behave.
