Romans Part 40 – Romans 12:11-21 Verse 11-13 • “not slothful in business” – Eph 4:28, 1Tim 6:18, 1Thess 4:11, 2Thess 3:12 – also the work of the lord – 2Cor 5:18-20. • “fervent in spirit” – Acts 18:25, Gal 4:18. - Don’t be apathetic • “serving the lord” – The direction of your diligence and zeal should be towards Gods will – Eph 6:5-7. • “rejoicing in hope” – Rom 8:18, Eph 1:18, Col 1:27 • “patient in tribulation” – Rom 15:4, Col 1:11, 2Cor 6:4, 1Tim 3:3 • “continuing instant in prayer” – Phil 4:6-7, 1Thess 5:16-18 • “distributing to the necessity of the saints”– 1Tim 6:18, 2Cor 9:7, 1Cor 16:1-4, Rom 15:26 • “given to hospitality” – Be generous expecting no return. Verse 14-18 • “vs 14” - Matt 5:44, Luke 23:34, Acts 7:60 – We don’t condone what the wicked do but we shouldn’t rejoice in there demise – Job 31:29-30, Ezek 33:11 • “vs 15” – As members one of another – 1Cor 12:26-27. • “Be of the same mind one toward another” – Phil 2:3-4 • “Mind not high things but condescend to men of low estate” –1Tim 6:17 - Esteem the lowly, often when you chase prestige you reap sorrow. • “Vs 17” – Do not fight evil with evil but rather provide things honest. • “vs 18” - Don’t be the cause of division – 1Tim 2:1-2 – If someone departs from the doctrine they are the cause of the division. Verse 19 • “give place unto wrath” – The authorities – Rom 13:4 – God being the ultimate authority. • “For it is written” – Duet 32:35, Psalm 94:1, Eph 5:6, 2Thess 1:7-9 • “vs 20” – Prov 25:21-22 – Example – 1Sam 24:16-22. • “vs 21” – The summary of the passage – Gal 6:10.
