The Time by the Sea is a new memoir by distinguished writer, essayist and anthologist Ronald Blythe, best-known as the author of Akenfield: A Portrait of an English Village. In The Time by the Sea he recalls a bygone era - life in 1950s Suffolk and the milieu surrounding the Aldeburgh Festival. He remembers great friendships with the likes of John and Christine Nash, Imogen Holst and Cedric Morris, being a part of Benjamin Britten's circle, and discoveries - in the arts, botany, and the history and geography of his native county, Suffolk.
