Rookie’s Rulebook Heroics Save Game | Kansas City Royals News

In a jaw-dropping first-inning play, rookie pitcher Troy Melton pulled off a rare, rulebook-driven save: after striking out the final batter with the bases loaded, he sprinted to home plate, snagged the ball from his scrambling catcher, and stepped on the plate just before a runner could score — all because the batter’s strikeout created a force out. The play, which stunned even veteran manager AJ Hinch and left the catcher momentarily confused, preserved a tie and ultimately helped the Tigers win 4-3. It’s a rare moment that proves knowledge of the rules can be as clutch as any pitch. Listen in comfort:Get a discount on a Soli Pillow: http://solipillow.com/discount/dnn.
