She wanted Rita King but she was under Rob Spenser’s label. Priscilla had plans to take her away from Rob. Monty kept telling Priscilla to go to the Brick City Nightclub to see Rosa Lee. He bragged so hard how well she could sing. Priscilla finally decided to go. She wore a wide brim hat and a striped suit and kept a tiny recorder in her pocket under the pocket lining. There was another lining sewed beneath it so the recorder wouldn’t fall through.Priscilla loved Rosa’s singing. But she could tell that Rosa was in pain. After her performance, Priscilla went backstage and peeped in Rosa’s dressing room. Her door was cracked open. She saw Rosa trying to cover a bruise on her face with makeup. It didn’t matter anyway if the bruise was seen. Everyone at the club knew that she was being beaten by the club owner. Priscilla kept her distance. She moved away from the dressing room door before Rosa could see her.Soon, Priscilla saw the club owner slap a young woman. She then knew who Rosa Lee had been beaten by. The girl ran outside crying. Priscilla walked out of the club to question the girl. The girl stood outdoors crying.Priscilla asked: What did he hit you for?The young woman replied: He didn’t like the way I responded to him. Priscilla: You work for him?The woman: YesPriscilla: Good, because you’ll be working for me. He won’t hit you again. Go back into the club.Priscilla went back into the club behind the young woman. She threatened the owner of the club secretly showing him a small pistol. She made him promise to never hit the young woman again. But that didn’t stop him from beating other women including Rosa.Priscilla decided to blackmail the owner. She didn't just want the money; she wanted the keys. She spent months documenting every broken promise and every bruised jaw, building a file that would turn the club owner’s legacy into ash. When she finally sat across from the club owner in his dimly lit office, she didn't demand a payout. She presented a contract. She leveraged his violence against his own balance sheet, bleeding his accounts dry until he had nothing left to offer but the deed itself. By the time the ink dried, the predator was out, and she was behind the desk, turning his house of horrors into a fortress of her own. Then Priscilla began to listen to her secret recordings of Rosa Lee. She called her into the office to talk to her. She asked, “Why do you let him hit you? Why do you keep coming back here?”Rosa asked: What are you talking about?Priscilla: You know what I’m talking about. And I know what the owner of this club has been doing to you. Why do you keep coming here?Rosa: He pays me to sing.Priscilla: How much?Rosa: $200 a night.Priscilla: I can pay you way more than that. Then Priscilla told Rosa that she was the owner of the club. and explained how she had been recording her performance. She asked if she would like to be heard live on the radio. Rosa gave a quick yes. Then Priscilla called Monty down to the club to pick up a recording to play Rosa singing. She told Monty to use his original radio name ‘The Buzz’. Monty went down to the station toon to put Rosa on the air.Monty: You’re listening to ‘The Buzz’! Here’s Rosa singing: Got What You Want’.Music 🎶Gail: You're listening to The Buzz. Story by Gail Nobles © 2026.The BUZZThis episode includes AI-generated content.
