Rosemary's Story

Rosemary, 29, from South Basildon and East Thurrock wanted to train as a nurse to serve her local NHS. She had the qualifications and the drive, but Health Education England's budget constraints meant training places were capped far below what the region's hospitals desperately needed. While wards in the East of England faced chronic understaffing, HM Treasury treated nurse training as a cost to be minimised rather than investment in public health. The training capacity existed.
